That actually makes a lot of sense. I was actually going to retake my score until people on TLS told me that I should be fine with my score and the boost would apply to me. Never really fully accepted it but this helps a lot. Thanks for the info.youngwarrior wrote:Well I know the boost applied to them but since both of them had insane numbers they probably would have gotten into YLS even with they didn't receive it. The thing is the black Canadians that apply to T-14 schools by and large are a very selective sample. Many black Canadians don't even know the boost applies to them and so when they apply to T-14, there GPA's and LSAT's tend to be at or exceed median. By contrast, the ones who have lower but still very impressive stats (i.e, 3.8-3.9 gpas and 164-169 lsats) will just apply to u of t/osgoode and won't even bother applying to hys because they have no idea that they'd receive a urm boost, and as a consequence think that they have no shot at being admitted. Because of this it's hard to ascertain whether or not the urm boost applies to black Canadians since the ones who apply most likely would have gotten into those schools without the boost. There's another black Canadian dude that I know who\s here on TLS, jnwa, his lsn is here: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/jnwaTAD wrote:Figured as much. Was just being neurotic. It won't, I know two black canadian guys from my alma mater (University of Toronto) that attend YLS and they all both acknowledged receiving a boost, it's worth noting however that their numbers would have been extremely competitive even if they were not URMs.
He had a 3.3 and a 173, got CLS, NYU and a bunch of other great schools, he's currently attending the University of Michigan on a fullride. He had a killer lsat, but his gpa was less competitive and the boost definitely helped him.

I'm exactly at the LSAT median and already did JS1. Black and international (not Canadian tho)TAD wrote:Has any URM below Harvard's median LSAT received a JS1 yet? If I remember correctly, you had an actual gpa though right? Instead of the international above average/average/superior ratings? US undergrad?Baby Gaga wrote:I'm exactly at the LSAT median and already did JS1. Black and international (not Canadian tho)TAD wrote:Has any URM below Harvard's median LSAT received a JS1 yet? Ya I know, but knowing you went to a US undergrad helps a little because the only URMs (international or not) I have seen that have gotten JS1s so far on TLS either have >50th lsats, still reside in the States, are citizens, or have had some kind of schooling or work experience there. Just pulling straws here.Baby Gaga wrote:yup. US undergrad ( I still count as international though)TAD wrote:If I remember correctly, you had an actual gpa though right? Haha no problem, just relax, it's still early in the cycle and although it may seem like it, there is no real correlation between GPA/LSAT scores and when people get their JS1 and JS2's. You're going to get into Harvard and will probably sweep HYS, patience my friend.TAD wrote: That actually makes a lot of sense. It is way too soon to think that. I read through last year's thread and some people waited 3-4 months for JS1s. Some of those people ended up with JS2s. It seems like there is no pattern as to who has already received one.ac8876a wrote:welp, looks like no JS1 for meAJ1010 wrote:A few days before Halloween, so around 10/28 or 10/29ac8876a wrote:when did you go complete?AJ1010 wrote:I've received a JS1 and im below both 25ths.TAD wrote:Has any URM below Harvard's median LSAT received a JS1 yet? It would be good to know many people/what portion of the class is filled by February 1st, the deadline for Harvard. I'm planning to submit as soon as I have my LSAT score which should be on Jan 4th.

Cuz I thought that since they do rolling, they go by the applications as they go complete?AJ1010 wrote:It is way too soon to think that. I don't believe that's necessarily the case based on a Spivey blog post. He said they basically separate apps into groups: high LSAT, high GPA, other (and somewhere in there, diversity may also be taken into acct), and go through them in that order. Based on some acceptance waves I've seen, it seems believable. Also, I trust Spiveyac8876a wrote:Cuz I thought that since they do rolling, they go by the applications as they go complete?AJ1010 wrote:It is way too soon to think that. That is interesting they sort into High GPA/LSAT. But something also tells me that they can sort according to demographic data too no? If enrolling URM's is a high priority, yet difficult to achieve, wouldn't it be one of the earliest considerations?

Yeah, he didn't really get into that. I wonder if that becomes a "They have similar stats, they're a URM, let's admit them first" type thing or what...latif wrote:That is interesting they sort into High GPA/LSAT.
