He said T-14, not T-20. You have a very good shot of getting somewhere in the T-20.zim5354 wrote:But is it even really worth it if you don't get a T20? From what I've read the money you make, if you can land a job (I've heard it's hard for non-T20s right now), isn't enough to make taking all the debt from law school worthwhile.Mojosodope wrote:
ehhh you might not get T14 but you should get some money at a good school
I'm debating a Feb retake, but it would be too late to apply this cycle anyway. I may just retake next Oct then ED.
Hopefully I'm just being overly pessimistic and in three to four weeks I'll get a 170+ lol.

Re: URM 2013-2014 Cycle Thread
What is the consensus on retakes? Do schools only care about the highest or will it mess up your chances significantly to have a score in the 170s and then a lower score?
I'd like to go to HYS or get a large scholarship at a T10 if I can. I got a 173 in Oct. December was a bit of a mess for me- especially LG. I guessed on maybe 4. That was not always my strong suit in practice (I've missed 3 or 4 on LG before and gotten in the high 170s on PTs). I think it's theoretically possible that I did better than October, especially if I was solid on LR and RC, but I don't know how likely it is. It also probably depends a bit on the curve, which is an unknown to all of us anyway. Thinking of canceling.
Need advice on how bad a 170s-cancel looks to adcomms vs. a 170s-lower score. Obviously 170s-to mid 170s would be excellent, but I don't know whether it's worth the risk.

I can't advise you on whether you should cancel or not, but I will tell you that I got a pretty good score on my first test and then cancelled my second score because of some crazy things that occurred the night before and I still got accepted into a lot of schools.

It won't matter either way. I talked to Spivey about it yesterday, even if you get a 150 it won't matter...you might have to answer a question about it but it won't matterteampeeta wrote:What is the consensus on retakes? I feel great about LR1 and LG. Feel good about RC, even mirrors. But LR2...those earlier questions slowed me down. I had to mad rush and I am uncertain on if I should cancel. Ugh. I really want a T7 even without scholarship. Now, I don't know.

What did you have on the LSAT before and what is your GPA? I thought I did well on RC and LR1. I don't feel good about LG and I don't know how LR2 was. I finished 25 of 26, but I'm just unsure of it. And LR is usually my best section. I'm debating too. I'm definitely done with the LSAT though. I guess that's some consolation.AAJD2B wrote:I feel great about LR1 and LG. We have the exact same feelings about the sections. I'm just not reading too much into anything. I'll know in a little less than a month...teampeeta wrote:What did you have on the LSAT before and what is your GPA? I thought I did well on RC and LR1. What do you think is worse? Waiting for the LSAT or waiting for admissions decisions.

I think waiting for your LSAT has to be the worse. Just the anticipation of knowing if any self doubt lingered as you approached the test. Or seeing if all your hard work in studying paid off on test day.applelover wrote:What do you think is worse? Waiting for the LSAT or waiting for admissions decisions.

But at least you know when you'll get your score . Admissions decision timelines fluctuate.okaygo wrote:LSAT. No debate.applelover wrote:What do you think is worse? Waiting for the LSAT or waiting for admissions decisions.

Yeah but the LSAT is the piece of the puzzle that determines everything. Once you have that you can get a pretty good idea of where you can get in.applelover wrote:But at least you know when you'll get your score . Generally waiting for admissions decisions is worse, but the week before the LSAT score release where it could be coming any day and every single email that you get could be the one that has the potential to totally change the path that your life takes, might be the worst wait I have ever experienced.applelover wrote:What do you think is worse? See when June scores got released I was so busy with work, the week before I forgot all about the LSAT, so I wasn't even expecting my score when I received it.okaygo wrote:No the LSAT week of wait is actual torture.

I think admissions is way worse, because you see that other people are getting them and you wonder why you haven't heard back yet.
You have an estimate of when you'll receive your LSAT score, and everyone will receive it the same day.

This is true too because it forces one to reexamine themselves and figure out well what is wrong with my application and why haven't I heard back yet. I am changing my answer now. The admissions decision is way worse because there is no deadline on when you will hear back unless you applied Early Decision.Mojosodope wrote:I think admissions is way worse, because you see that other people are getting them and you wonder why you haven't heard back yet.

I'm still saying LSAT.
I'm in a pretty unique situation w/r/t that wait though, I think. I studied and made my list of target schools before I had ever heard of TLS. I only discovered it through the Oct LSAT waiting thread (I was one of the ~735 lurkers, lol), and in that month I learned SO MUCH that it pretty much turned my notion of how to go about law school applications on its head. Suddenly, I learned my target schools were wrong (and despite my low GPA I could reach higher because of the urm boost), my chances of gainful employment hinged on what school I went to, AND that admissions is 95% a numbers game. I'd only studied for the LSAT for like 2.5 months--and that was pretty casually. So every day I just got more and more anxious because I might have royally fucked up my chances at a good school and the career I wanted. It was miserable. When the icons finally went grey, I gave my mom my phone so I couldn't check my email every minute and got drunk, I was so nervous. Clearly it all worked out, but I can't imagine admissions will even come close to being that bad, because at least now I know what I'm getting into.

You also have a 179, so your admissions wait doesn't count.midnight_circus wrote:I'm still saying LSAT.
