I'm visiting UT at the end of next week, which is also over my birthday. Apparently I get to look at hot straight guys for my birthday. I'll take it... I better buy some highly-reflective, polarized sunglasses first, though. You know what I'm talking about. Anyway, what's fun on a Friday night in Austin?

bar hopping down sixth street then wandering your way down to fourth street where all the gays are. not sure about fridays, but thursdays are amateur strip nights at rain.

We must have different tastes. I went to 4th street twice last September. The scene was tragic. I haven't been back since. Thank God I have an out-of-state boo of sorts. When I'm not missing him, I work out and play tennis LOL .

Yeah, this kind of reminds me of my undergrad life. I don't mind just making straight friends for the weekend and going to 6th street. I do like going to non-gay bars sometimes since I generally know what to expect at the end of the night! I never actually went to a single gay bar during undergrad since Phoenix doesn't have a good scene at all (although not coming out until the beginning of senior year is part of it too). OTOH, when I was in D.C., I went two nights in a row and it was awesome. Plus, I went and bought new sunglasses today so I can definitely enjoy the hot-weather people-watching that I've missed since AZ - with the right sunglasses you can basically leer at people covertly, and those big hot-weather state schools are perfect for that.

for prime eye-candy spotting, i'd take mid afternoon jogs around campus. you're sure to see hunks walking in and out of the athletic areas.

I make up for that by avoiding the sun and moisturizing. Plus, my drunk-ass grandpa is still going strong at 79, and his drunk-ass mother made it to around 90, so I've got some good genetics. I just have to avoid accidental deaths and I'm fine. (<-- closest thing to a "tongue-in-cheek" smilie we have)

I think it's funny how my life insurance company screens people for health problems to qualify for the supplemental life insurance, but doesn't consult driving records to qualify for the supplemental accidental death insurance. I'm pretty excited to not drive a car in law school! Yay for big cities!

Avoiding the sun and moisturizing can only do so much. Once you enter your 30s, your chances of remaining young--without plastic surgery or botox--are best if you lead a healthy lifestyle, which includes, among other things, abstaining from alcohol.

It's great that your drunk-ass progenitors have longevity LOL. But how do they look? Are they well-preserved? Or do they have dull, wrinkly, patchy skin? There's a difference, you know. For example, my dad--who does not drink--is in his 70s; however, most people guess he's in his 50s. He's lucky, though--black don't crack!

I come from Gainesville which is essentially the same thing, a massive undergraduate mecca in the middle of comservative bumfuckeygpt. It produces a really chill atmopshere that I find is conducive to setting up relationship groups like the ones on That 70's show. Sure, there aren't any clubs--but damnit you might find genuine human connection if it still exists.

So I guess to play devil's advocate, one might say it depends on what you're looking for. A vibrant social scene like NYC is clearly not present, but some people aren't looking for that.

Also, I've heard that UVA has a shitton of gay republicans - so take that as you will - and no value-judgment assessment from myself.
