Just be who you are and trust that that person is interesting and has a point of view that any law school would benefit from.mindatwork wrote:
I'm planning to send in my apps the weekend of November 20th (provided my LoRs show up on time), though I'm having a hard time retooling my diversity statement. This whole law school process has made me stressed about my racial identity in a way I haven't been in a long time, probably because it is central in my reasons for applying to law school. I'm not used to interrogating my heritage this much!
If I were you, I would apply to Yale and Stanford too (if you could see yourself attending if accepted). 172 is not a common score for someone of African descent and S/Y are going to lose the competition for some of them because NYU is going to buy some, and Michigan will too. Some of those 172s and higher aren''t going to be able to leave Chicago for family reasons. Whatever.mindatwork wrote:Really? From my understanding, they're less forgiving of a GPA below-median even with URM status. But I could be wrong.
Let Yale tell you no, don't eliminate yourself before you get started. Just put together the best application you can and apply.
edit: also, if money is scarce, find it. This is too important. Even if you have to do psych surveys at a nearby university or be a craigslist dogwalker for a month or two. You can always put it on a 0% introductory rate credit card in the mean time and scrounge up two hundred more bucks some kind of way.
