For all of you posters who are finally getting to cash in on your hard work with incredible cycles and great $$$ offers, I was hoping you might be able to share some useful anecdotal data/ advice.
I studied while working full time this fall, took the December LSAT and had some SERIOUS anxiety issues during the test and ended up really under performing. I have some good softs and was lucky enough to be admitted to several great schools (Columbia, NYU, Northwestern and Michigan) with a low LSAT score. I have a scholarship offer from Northwestern and am hoping to hear back from NYU and Columbia this week, but I'm also verrrry debt averse and am trying really hard not to disregard the possibility of taking the LSAT again and then reapplying next year. My numbers are nowhere near competitive for a non-URM.
My question for all of y'all is, what's the LSAT score threshold as a URM woman for being competitive for substantial (at least half tuition) scholarships? 168? 170? It would also be so helpful to hear what debt ceilings other people have decided to set for themselves when making the decision about whether or not to attend a school?
Also CONGRATS to all of you who have been crushing this admissions cycle. Y'all are amazing!

Read over it but didn't have anything different/better than what's already been said. Will look again. Amazing options to have.lc39 wrote:Congrats on Yale CM!!!

drtygrty - Retake is the credited response here, given that you underperformed badly. I'd add the caveat that it also depends on UGPA, URM status, overall application strength, and so on. Can't see any reason why you shouldn't study hard, retake, and attend a t15 for free (which is more or less the theme here outside of our resident YLS and HLS marquee posters).
Also gaiz: Looking like full-ride Berk vs almost-full-ride GULC vs 90k at Penn (being reconsidered for need). Really hoping Penn comes through, but if not, just taking the money and running.

Hey LC, can you just call the Career Services at all schools and have a frank discussion about your goals? Of course they'll sugar coat things, but perhaps they can give you real stats on likelihood of getting SF/SV firms. Also ask to talk to someone (alum/student) who's from the Bay, has an UG from there w/ significant ties. Additionally, doesn't URM play a factor in firm hiring? Perhaps ask that the poc be a urm as well.lc39 wrote:Congrats on Yale CM!!!

You have legit concerns and I would imagine that the school would try to be as helpful as possible. If you haven't already, peruse the attorney listing of firms you have your eye on and see where people went to UG and LS. See if anyone looks like you. Sorry I don't have anything meaningful to contribute, but I too want to get to the bay post-JD. ((Hoping HLS or Penn will let that happen.))
I also think you should determine whether a LDR is ideal for you for potentially 3-4 month spells without visits. Everyone talks about jobs but love should play a role too.

Yes, I've spoken to Career Services at UChi and there's 11 2Ls headed to the Bay Area this year. Unfortunately, they can't really tell me how many people preferred SF/SV but couldn't get it...Which is what I'm really concerned about.
I've also spoken to several graduating 3Ls who made it seem like returning to SF was trivially easy but of course, those are people the school put me in touch with and some folks in my choosing thread definitely have pointed out that SF/SV is not a guarantee from any school - I'll need to get good grades no matter where I am.
At this point, I'm mostly between S and UChi and I'm hoping my visit to Chicago will decide it one way or the other.

Yeaaaaah man, I'm fricking amped, figured I'd land 1-2 livable offers, really happy one of them was Berk!ballcaps wrote:bro! yes!Flokkness wrote:Looking like full-ride Berk

I'd go Penn because you want East Coast eventually and Berk's biglaw #s are always pretty shaky.Flokkness wrote:Yeaaaaah man, I'm fricking amped, figured I'd land 1-2 livable offers, really happy one of them was Berk!ballcaps wrote:bro! yes!Flokkness wrote:Looking like full-ride Berk

I also think east coast PI as your long-term goal favors Penn, although west-coast favors Berkeley.
