As far as 140k vs 160k everything I've read says that Texas biglaw is on par with NYC biglaw as far as pay. For example, Haynes and Boone pays summer associates $3,077.00 a week. Assuming one can expect to be paid the same as a summer, that's just over 160K not factoring in any potential bonus.Oskosh wrote:I have a hypothetical for y'all...
It hasn't to me, but in case it does, I'd like to know what course of action to take.
If you were offered mostly loans, and you didn't accept the admission. Do you think you could re-apply and include an addendum in which you included that you wanted to strengthen your application to be competitive w/r/t schollies? Do you think that would mollify the adcomm? Just wondering as I hear back from other schools/receive financial aid packages.
Can someone explain why Cornell is beast at big law? I know that it's in New York, but I thought that pretty much all T14 had 50 percentiles over 160k (of course you're assuming big law is the cause)?
Also, does anybody know about the market in Texas? lol it's sad that I don't and I'm a Texan. However, it has a nice cost of living and it appears to be a state that has a lot going on with respect to economy... Certainly not 160k, but maybe 140k or so?
Again, my musings above are just preventative (lord forbid I incur any interest). I've heard horror stories about big law.

Considering that I'm still waiting to hear back from 4 schools, I suspect that this will NOT be my favorite week of the cycle.90convoy wrote: whatever happens I'm sure it'll happen this week so we should all be excited/nervous

Are URM's in a better position to negotiate scholarships since we are already kinda rare?

Would love to know this too... Trying to figure out a good way to negotiate at GULC, no real higher offers as of yet.canadianbrother wrote:Are URM's in a better position to negotiate scholarships since we are already kinda rare?

Guys I have a question.
Is it too late in the game to expect Harvard to schedule more JS1's.
I went complete late January, and still haven't heard anything from Harvard.

Rejected today too with similar numbers and MA as well. Honestly thought I had a better shot due to their drop in ranking but who knows what Michigan is up toggnobbq wrote:I was rejected at UMich today, 165/3.5 MA, after being waitlisted last year with a 161. Does anyone have any explanation as to why? I got another year of WE in and sent in, what I feel, a much stronger app than last year. It feels like I just got punched in the gut

Michigan has been weird this cycle from my perspective. I saw a non-URM with a 3.8/161 get $10k/year from them. THAT's strange business...
Reads like heavy YP to me.

Haha. Don't get me wrong -- I would like to graduate without debt and really have an option as to what I want to do with my degree.FairchildFLT wrote:As far as 140k vs 160k everything I've read says that Texas biglaw is on par with NYC biglaw as far as pay. I also would like to know about re-applying next cycle. I actually wish that I had gotten dinged at these other schools, but if I have to re-apply, I'd hate to be perceived as inconsiderate. Is it common for applicants to speak with candor and say something along the lines of, "Your school is very prestigious, but was too much of a gamble with my numbers/aid offered. I took a year off, gained work experience, and improved my numbers." Would that be seen as sincere? I hate to make it all about the numbers... but it is all about the numbers lol.
TL;DR: Has anybody who re-applied been re-accepted after being accepted at the same school last cycle w/ the same/lower stats?

I would really say take the scholarships and run. I would actually kill to have 120k at a T14 (still waiting for information), and I have more LSAT retakes... So I'm in a less risky position than you.

When did you apply? As someone who applied in mid/late-Jan, I kind of feel like this cycle hasn't been too kind to later applicants.ggnobbq wrote:pm'd with more details, but basically waiting on a handful of t14 still.pushsum123 wrote:ggnobbq wrote:I was rejected at UMich today, 165/3.5 MA, after being waitlisted last year with a 161. I definitely agree! Thought it wouldn't be as much of an issue this cycle
