Oh, Dini's suggestion seems more relevant so im cool with that.lc39 wrote:Dini suggested "factors going into our decision" (location, finances, partner, size, specific program, employment stats, etc.) and I posted asking for feedback on that but I think we all understandably got caught up in the Yale excitement.Tr3 wrote:Can we do a new poll? Orrr something else?
But if the region poll thing is more popular we could do that first?

The winter always makes me feel certain that I do not want to attend school in the east coast. It's cold in Texas (at least relative to our concept of "cold"), and I am staying in and doing nothing. Can it be Spring yet?

Does anyone have any advice for my JS1 interview next week? I know everyone says it's quite relaxed but I just want to make sure I have an idea of what to expect.

^^ I wanted to reflexively say yes, but looking back over my application, I can't find the typical race/background question. Clearly they knew I was URM, though because they had a member of the Black Law Student Association reach out to me quickly after I was admitted. I did mention being in the Black Student League in UG, so that had to have clued them in. So, make sure you get it in there somehow!
Hope I'm not too late.

Hey 2 questions re:SEO, can PM me if you'd like. Just thought I'd post them here since it's more active.
1.) What start date did you guys put down for SEO?
2.) As for preferred cities well it's kind of dependent on where I'm going to school—I want to go to the right school for me that isn't financially crazy and I'm still waiting to hear back from schools and about merit/total aid. If I end up in DMV region then DC makes sense, South then ATL makes sense, NorCal then SF/SV makes sense, SoCal then LA makes sense, New England/NYC then NYC, Midwest then Chicago, etc..... so is there any flexibility with that?

A) Pull the info from LSAC?
B) Get it from the PS/250 if you talk about it there (my PS talks about being MA)

I'm pretty concerned about this, too. This is just anecdotal, but I have a friend who is involved with SEO's other programs and he said that pretty much all SEO interns in SF/SV go to B or S, which indicates to me that they do indeed try to place you in the same market as your school. I'm crossing my fingers for SF/SV (if I'm fortunate enough to get SEO) despite wherever I end up for school.isaiah1992 wrote:1. So still mulling my options for the upcoming year. My thoughts have now focused on my resume. How thorough are admissions departments when it comes to re-application (specifically, looking at your resume)? Unless I do something else, the only huge update on my resume would be that I taught for another year (3 years of being a lead teacher). I did apply for an institute leadership position in Houston (facilitating the transition of Houston corps members to the city, facilitating discussions about TFA's goals for a week, etc), so it would be cool to include that. I also will be co-managing my school's soccer enterprise next year, which is just a fancy way of saying that I will be in charge of gauging interest in soccer, holding information sessions, creating league schedules, ordering and distribution of materials, etc.
When I type it out, I'm not satisfied, and get the impression that admissions would just think I've been sitting on my ass for another year.

Yes, I think anyone admitted to H who's not already deposited needs to withdraw now so Convoy can get his JS2.

I think the only safe assumption is that there will be a comparison between your current application and your future application. It's so easily available to them, I can't imagine them not looking it up. How important improvements in the second application are probably depends on whether it's someplace you were accepted in or rejected from.Oskosh wrote:So still mulling my options for the upcoming year. Either way, your "sitting on your ass for a year" sounds like working a high stress, highly socially valuable job. It's not quite the same a sitting in Mom's basement "running" your etsy shop.
I would think stressing that you continued to do good work and had important accomplishments, including increasing extracurricular opportunities for your students, that would be great. You might also get an updated letter of recommendation that focuses on this past year. You probably wouldn't need to worry about these kinds of updates if the lsat was your apps main weakness and caused a lack of $ or acceptance. Schools will notice that difference and probably not need much of an explanation of how you've been spending your time away from law school.
Beyond your resume, if you're admitted and don't matriculate, I would take some time to explain why you made that decision. There was a recent example (I think in the Cornell thread) where someone who got $$$ last year reapplied this year and got rejected.

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
Yeah, it's not likely that I'll matriculate this year, but my cycle is still not over. It's the most likely outcome, though. As for those schools which have admitted me, and which I REALLY would like to attend, I am going to submit "why x essays," as well as a few tailored LoRs (although this will most likely be for the trinity depending on my score). I'm going to have to walk a fine line. Can I flat out say something along the lines of, "I loved your community/your location, but made a decision that was fiscally sound (there's no way I would want to pay sticker for law school)."Skool wrote:I think the only safe assumption is that there will be a comparison between your current application and your future application. That is really what is stressing me out -- an admixture of ambivalence with respect to re-taking (if I'm dedicated, I should succeed), top 10 schools that have already admitted me and what they would think of me next year, and having to delay law school for another year.
Thank you for the advice you have offered.

I don't know if I've congratulated you, but first and foremost, congrats on Yale!cc78 wrote:Osh: Why are you panicking so soon? I can literally feel your anxiety through the interwebs. If I am not mistaken, you have a lot of schools yet to hear from, right?
This is probably the most anxious I've been in my life. I just feel that my cycle was falsely buoyed by Berkeley admitting me 10 days from going complete. From there, I thought I would at least get a JS1 or an invite to Chicago, neither of which have occurred. So right now I basically feel like although I've yet to hear from many, I'll most likely be waitlisted. And I don't want that, because you can't defer a waitlist, and I don't want to have to re-take/reapply because of the omnipresent possibility that I'll get a bad card dealt to me.
It's already March, and I have begun re-studying for the LSAT in June. By doing so, I've mentally auto-waitlisted/rejected myself.

TL;DR: I'd hate to be the fool who gave up Berkeley only to be rejected next year.

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
Kind thanks for the congrats, Osh, but let me really repay you by trying to calm your nerves.
You applied in January that's not so long ago that you should be making any conclusions. If we get to the third week of March and you've heard nothing at all, then it might be time to clinch the arms of your chair a little tighter, but for now you are just hurting yourself by worrying.
I was in H's last admit wave a couple of years ago. I got my JS1 on 3/27. There's much to come in the admissions game. The people you're seeing justifiably freak now went complete in October/November.
Also if you do end up reapplying, keep in mind that it's still a significant difference to apply early, like day 1. But I think you're so far from making the decision not to go at all that it's almost not worth speculating on it right now.

if you have strong ties to a certain area you may be able to get somewhere not near your school but its unlikely. But remember the city you do your SEO summer in doesnt have to be the city you want to practice in. Most likely you can summer in another office at the same firm either your 1L or 2L summer. I'm doing it this summer.
