Yes, because he will be leaving money on the table if he EDs.foolishgirl33 wrote:An AfA man with my stats and in a similarly situated situation would be better off? Another friend of mine is in that spot and he wants to do ED. Should I discourage him?

You love to ask questions and derail your own thread, don't you?foolishgirl33 wrote:You think that with his stats, a place like Columbia will devour him?

Seriously, just focus your time and energy on preparing a solid package. I think folks have already answered your question: that neither you -- nor your friend -- should ED to CLS.
Best of luck and keep us posted on the URM 2012-2013 Cycle thread!

Re: Should I apply ED to T-10? Which ones?
I feel like there's a lot of false hope going on in this thread. It's wonderful that a few AAs were able to get into Columbia with significantly below-median numbers, but that's kind of... unlikely.

This includes all URMs, and I'm sure the 4 that got in with your numbers were AA, but if you're gunning for Columbia, I'd ED. I'd also throw apps at Chicago and NYU in case that doesn't work out, If you have a judge that's willing to pitch you a clerkship and you really want NYC, I don't know why NOT Columbia ED. (Especially when only 1 in 4 of those admits even got money on LSN)
EDIT> Depending on how cool you are with NYU, considering skipping ED Columbia all together and take your chances with NYU RD for teh munnies.

So now that he's realized foregoing mention of his ethnicity/race may have placed him on the WL, this time around he wants to play the race card to his advantage for admittance?
Brilliant. I guess. Do whatever you can to get into a T5...right?
And I'm not sure if legacy matters for CLS. I suspect not.

Thanks for all the great advice. You are all very sweet
How about Chicago if he applies in September though r.d.? I think he would be very productive and happy there

From what my parents tell me of their UofC days, no one goes there to be happy.foolishgirl33 wrote:Thanks for all the great advice. You are all very sweet![]()

Would it be easier for him to get into U-Chicago though? His first choice is Columbia but if that doesn't work out he knows he'll be happier at U-C than anywhere else.

When you delete all your posts for no good reason, you might be removing info that would be useful to someone else later. If you left them, TLS might not have to have this exact same conversation with the next person who asks.

That would be because, as Chicagoans surely know, UChicago is where fun goes to die.transfer2014 wrote:From what my parents tell me of their UofC days, no one goes there to be happy.foolishgirl33 wrote:Thanks for all the great advice. You are all very sweet![]()

Not true. UChicago is a very different place now. Heck it's vastly different than what is was 4 years ago. There's tons of fun to be at UChicago. It is quite a different feel from its peers, but some people are extraordinarily happy theredukeblue wrote:That would be because, as Chicagoans surely know, UChicago is where fun goes to die.transfer2014 wrote:From what my parents tell me of their UofC days, no one goes there to be happy.foolishgirl33 wrote:Thanks for all the great advice.
