Story time. I had a bunch of friends in the dance department in undergrad, and they convinced me to take an intro Hip Hop dance class once. One day the teacher decided to teach us the typewriter/Hammer dance. Before that class I never totally understood the "white people can't dance" thing, but in that moment, with all of those white people tripping over their own feet as they attempted to move side to side to a beat, I learned that some stereotypes have an incredibly valid basis in truth.Mojosodope wrote:

As a black person who makes no claims of being a great dancer, I totally agree. I'm sure there's something that I could say about historical cultural norms that might lead to more Black and Latino people being inclined to be skilled dancers, but I really don't feel like doing any research that might be able to substantiate those claims.Dr.Zer0 wrote:Are AAs and Latinos just supposed to naturally be dancers? I was at a party once and some Armenian chick comes up to me and blatantly asks "Aren't you MA? Why aren't you dancing?!"MoMettaMonk wrote:

I can actually dance but men can never seem to keep up. They always want to try to make up their own rhythm. *scoff*

Thought about it, then read about the various pledging deaths and realized that the Alphas had been banned from my university for the past decade because of pledging and decided that I was not, for lack of a better phrase, about that life.mandyjay11 wrote:I know, right? Wow. Yeah I totally feel you. I was very apprehensive about a situation where a group of ppl treat you like shit and then all of a sudden we are sisters and best friends for life. I'm not sure I want to make friends that way. Although , there are a lot of good networking connections that come from Greek life.MoMettaMonk wrote:Thought about it, then read about the various pledging deaths and realized that the Alphas had been banned from my university for the past decade because of pledging and decided that I was not, for lack of a better phrase, about that life.mandyjay11 wrote:I know, right? Oh yeah, I've got family that are Greek and they've told me how useful it is to be able to tap into that network whenever they need it. And not just in their organization, but the whole D9.mandyjay11 wrote:mandyjay11 wrote:I know, right? Is anyone in here Greek?AAJD2B wrote:Anyone steppers in the house ? Yea some of the fraternities and sororities at my school were suspended as well. I always wanted to go Greek when I was growing up, but it just didn't happen during my UG. Maybe grad school.MoMettaMonk wrote:Thought about it, then read about the various pledging deaths and realized that the Alphas had been banned from my university for the past decade because of pledging and decided that I was not, for lack of a better phrase, about that life.mandyjay11 wrote:I know, right? I kind of wish I knew that before hand then I probably would have given it more thought.
