Welcome to the thread and good luck with your interview.JamaicanSaiyan8 wrote:Long time lurker here to give a modicum of insight into personal UVA experience. Application sent 1/5...Interview request 2/4. Will update as necessary.
Also received Georgetown's scholly email. Haven't responded as yet but I can't see how it would hurt.

Thank you for the well wishes! I submitted apps super late so it would feel amazing to crack the top 10. Congrats to you on the excellent and inspirational cycle that you're having as well!

Forgot to specify it's at Penn. It's Penn's Butler, if Levy is their Hammy.cc78 wrote:What's that?lc39 wrote:Received an invite to apply for the James Wilson (75k-105k over 3 years)...Apply or nah?

1/2 off columbia > 1/2 off penn anyway, no?

That's how I feel but I was wondering if it would be useful in negotiation at all? Probably not more so than the Butler I assume but I wanted to get y'all's thoughts.ballcaps wrote:meh.lc39 wrote:Received an invite to apply for the James Wilson scholly at Penn (75k-105k over 3 years)...Apply or nah?

makes sense, especially if you land 35k/year, which is certainly more than the butler. i imagine columbia might listen.lc39 wrote:That's how I feel but I was wondering if it would be useful in negotiation at all? on a related note, it's hard to be completely diligent about maximizing every outcome after getting into H(YS for you haha)

Well congrats on the invite, LC!
Not sure how this will play with negotiation. You definitely could use the Butler to get Penn to increase its offer. Hard to know how NYU or UChi would treat it.
By the way, it would be nice to hear from UChi about scholarships...it was promised end of January.

It's more than the Butler but not a ton more (Butler is 95K over 3 years).ballcaps wrote:makes sense, especially if you land 35k/year, which is certainly more than the butler. i imagine columbia might listen.lc39 wrote:That's how I feel but I was wondering if it would be useful in negotiation at all? Also, completely agree - especially since I anticipate being in a position of receiving good need-based aid.

Tomorrow is FR time for Berk. I was expecting they would come out with FR decisions a bit earlier since it seems tough to do them all at once, but I guess not. Although, today isn't over, so we shall see.

Agreed. YHS change the calculus big time. It's just hard for me to see anyone taking CCN(P) over YHS at equal money and still hard for me to see anyone taking CCN over YHS for anything other than free. I'd love to hear the thoughts of someone who sees things differently.ballcaps wrote: it's hard to be completely diligent about maximizing every outcome after getting into H(YS for you haha)

Well I didn't apply to S, but I probably would have taken either Columbia or NYU over S with equal money if I was faced with the decision. Just a personal preferencecc78 wrote:Agreed. Haha, I kid. It's just that in my mind Y = S > H > CCN. So S = CN is kind of brain breaking to me. I think fit/personal preference matter a lot though so you do you!!

So, help me understand this sentence in my admissions letter dated 12/31/14:Wahrheit wrote:False, website says early March for Chicago, which is about the timing last year too.cc78 wrote:Well congrats on the invite, LC!

We all hoped it would be early, but nah.
