Is it just me or is there a lot less activity on this thread than last year? It seems like at this point last year 6 or 7 URM's were already admitted to HLS and several other places. Come on guys I wanna hear some good news!!

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
There are about 4-5 (maybe more) that have gotten into HLS. They may not have posted in this forum though. Also HLS started sending out KB1s later this year. But even with this info, there is still less activity in the forum in general. I know TLS isn't a good representation of the whole application pool but it has been mention thatCookie2 wrote:Is it just me or is there a lot less activity on this thread than last year? --maybe there are less urm applicants this year
-- maybe most of the remaining urm applicants are taking their lsat in dec and feb (not sure how believable this one is)
--This cycle is just 'unique'
....or maybe we are just not as cool as the urm applicants of the past lol

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
I definitely think that this cycle is somewhat odd compared to last year's cycle. From the HLS front, there are a couple of URM's that have applied during October that have been under review for a while now without KB1's (myself included). My best guess, for HLS and many other law schools, is that there are fewer URM's currently applying and the adcomms are waiting a little while to see if the application pool gets bigger before they make their decisions. I think the few URM's that have been admitted have been autoadmits (3.7+, 167+). Hopefully with time we'll see some good news.Cookie2 wrote:Is it just me or is there a lot less activity on this thread than last year? Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
I feel like status checkers are unreliable. For instance, when I got my Gtown acceptance letter, my status said "Application Complete" from about 3 weeks prior. Same thing with Duke. My other applications haven't really changed in status either. Maybe I'm just an anomaly I dunno..they seem to be dependable for everyone else!

Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
I'm just curious. Why is it that so many don't post their stats on profile here? When someone says "Yay! I'm in!" It'd be great to be able to click on their profile in order to gauge chances of similar personal good news in future (obviously based on app date. I'd wager one gets that sinking feeling when someone w/similar stats AND app date gets news, while one's own box sits empty).
That said, looks like most folks are using the ASW rather than status checker for news/movement. My D's status checkers didn't change either. She was in at Vandy, GW as of Thanksgiving. She wasn't going to apply to HYS because she thought her stats were too low -- but after doing some scary research on AA law school performance & job prospects in the T-14, I've strongly advised her to "pay her money & take her chances!"

I think in the above context it's Admitted Students Website. For example, with Michigan you can tell you've been admitted once you're able to sign into the ASW.AS33 wrote:What is ASW?

Hm it seems like you can't really check your status with ASW, though.

yeah except how it can tell you if you've been admitted.AS33 wrote:Hm it seems like you can't really check your status with ASW, though.
anyway, not sure if i'm the only URM this happened to, but my EA app for UT was held for consideration in the RD pool yesterday, 11/30. applied there 11/1. not holding my breath for the held app at all, but i guess it's better than a ding, since some people got dinged yesterday too.

You can search through specific school threads (that you've applied to) in the main forums here on TLS or . . . I just googled [school name] and Admitted Students Website.

This makes me feel better. I too applied to Harvard in october and have been under review forever. I assumed they just moved me to the waitlist. Do schools like HYS typically wait to admit their URMs later?Sh@keNb@ke wrote:I definitely think that this cycle is somewhat odd compared to last year's cycle. Re: 2011 - 2012 URM Application Cycle
Looking at past cycles..some URMs (non auto-admits) who submitted earlier in the cycle get their decisions in Jan/Feb/March. Its been hypothesized that they wait to get the whole pool of URMs before they make their decisions on this particular group.Dani.B wrote:This makes me feel better.
