Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
Hey everyone checking in
Stats 157/3.78
In at 15 schools including Northwestern, Minnesota,Indiana, UNC,Wake Forest, Fordham, Illinois
Waiting on Duke. Just want to encourage everyone to apply to wherever you want to go because stats are important but not your whole story. My stats are definitely below a lot of the schools I got into, especially Northwestern but I had a good overall application.

Welcome to the thread! And congrats on your acceptances -- these are all great schools. And I agree that the whole person seems to be considered (at least for this cycle).omegaday1500 wrote:Hey everyone checking in

You do realize I'm not stuttin' you Jem. Not long ago you were certain you'd never get the JS2.jemthey17 wrote:I would be stunned if I did.cc78 wrote:I wouldn't be shocked if you or one of the others of us in here got a YLS call. I frankly would just prefer getting the ding sooner rather than later because it's the last chip I need to fall in my cycle.jemthey17 wrote:Saw Yale was making some calls last night and will continue over the next few days. Have no chance of getting a call myself, but good luck to others in this thread!
I would also prefer the ding sooner rather than later. I don't want to hold out hope for the hopeless.

Would anyone consider YLS over H/S at the same cost?
Or what would be a deciding factor (family factors excluded)

Duke knows you have no ties there (?) and more attractive options coming to you. Be prepared to remain on their wait list till the summerDiniMae wrote:Thanks. I'm at a loss for how I'm hearing back from certain schools AND NOT DUKE! Lol

Honestly for SF/SV, SLS is just as good if not better than YLS. And moving a mile away is way more appealing than moving across the country.Harvette wrote:Would anyone consider YLS over H/S at the same cost?

I know you said excluding family factors but I have to consider the software engineering/biotech opportunities (better in Palo Alto and Boston than New Haven) for my SO. Lastly, I would never see my family if I moved to H/Y. They could never afford to travel to see me if I'm that far away and I'm very close to them so that would be very difficult for me.
All that said, maybe I'm finding reasons to dislike Y because I'm expecting my rejection soon. The no grades first semester thing does seem exceedingly nice. And their LRAP is the best thing I've ever seen.

I don't post here too often, but you seem like you have your shit together. Good for you, and it sounds like it's going to work out for you and your family one one way or the other.lc39 wrote:Honestly for SF/SV, SLS is just as good if not better than YLS.
