Orange County is the best place in the world for anyone who's never lived here, and it's the worst place in the world for anyone who's grown up here. I have two coworkers that moved to OC in the last couple years and almost can't remember "how miserable xyz" was. No matter what you need, there's a place to get it within a 10 mile radius of wherever you are. If you're of an incredibly obscure ethnicity, chances are you'll meet people with your similar background in OC. The "Disney" culture permeates life -- there's very little (reported) crime, in some cities you'll go an entire day without seeing a single police car. When you're on break, you'll go to the beach, even in November.
That said, the mindset of rabid materialism gets to OC kids who develop a kind of existential self-awareness when they come to the conclusion that the world is not OC. That's a really hard thing to remember here. There's a lot of jobs, but there's a lot of people trying to get those jobs. There's always a film of inescapable smog in the air, and the realization that while the rest of the world has a 10 minute commute to work, yours is almost an hour.
It's the best place in the world for the people coming to OC. They'll live the rest of their lives here, totally content to be away from snow, isolation, grumpy east coast people, and will surf/play golf/throw backyard parties month of the year. Those born here can't wait to escape the materialism, self-love, and this endless nagging realization that when you look into the Pacific, you're staring at the very peak of all western civilization has to offer.
... that was more philosophical than I intended. All that to say, I get Dre's antagonism.
