Checking in! Most notable acceptances this cycle so far are Cornell, Vandy($), WashU($), and BU($). Waiting to hear back from pretty much the entire T14. I have my JS1 tomorrow!

Thoughts on the rankings, guys? How if at all will they impact your decision?

Re: URM 2016-2017 Cycle Thread
Not at all, honestly. I am deciding based on my personal ranking of money, employment, and how much I think I will fit in at the environment. USNWR is just there to back up my potential decision to not attend Harvard so no one thinks I am insane.lula43 wrote:Thoughts on the rankings, guys? How if at all will they impact your decision?

not great cause I really like Berk. but it really shouldn't matter all that much. the rankings fluctuate every year and by the time we graduate in three years who knows what the rankings will look like. money, location, and employment still matters far above any rankings.lula43 wrote:Thoughts on the rankings, guys? i'm not just saying this cause Berk dropped

I agree! I'm also bummed about GULC. I love D.C. and to see them falling off in factors such as employment there is definitely a bummer. But like you said, they fluctuate. Hopefully they make a come back by 2020dietcoke1 wrote:not great cause I really like Berk. but it really shouldn't matter all that much. the rankings fluctuate every year and by the time we graduate in three years who knows what the rankings will look like. money, location, and employment still matters far above any rankings.lula43 wrote:Thoughts on the rankings, guys? Lol. I was so thrilled to see Berkeley drop. Petty AF.lnsl123 wrote:Movements can be annoying (looking at you CLS!) but it's meaningless. Won't affect my decision. Great cycle! Iirc, you got Darrow at Michigan. Would you be willing to share where you are leaning between YH(probably will be S as well) vs. Darrow?TAD wrote:IN

It will be pretty hard to defend GT now unless they give a lot of aid

Yep, I was also dinged from Berk. Quite funny since I'm in at NW, now a t10 (yes?). Berk doesn't deserve us! haha.lnsl123 wrote:Movements can be annoying (looking at you CLS!) but it's meaningless. ~Don't quote plz~
Dang people on this site making me paranoid.
In:
Harvard (?$), U Chicago ($$$), Columbia (?/$), NYU ($$), Penn ($), UVA ($$$), Mich ($$$), Duke ($$), Cornell, Northwestern, BU ($$), BC ($$$), Vanderbilt, UCLA ($)
Withdrew Before Decision:
University of Illinois
WL/Reject
None
~Okay now you can quote below here~
I just sent out a wave of withdrawal emails so its basically down to Harvard/Chicago (although I am convinced they made a clerical error). I am still visiting UVA and Mich because I already got my plane ticket though, and I sent in an aid app for Columbia so who knows.

When the new USNWR rankings come out and now you were admitted to TWO top ten schools instead of one

Edit: I was probably gonna go to NU either way as long as they don't give me a big ol' goose egg worth of scholly $$$. and maybe even then But still, it's nice lol.

++1, and let's have that one include other substantive info like where folks are officially attending, gpa/LSATs, softs, advice, when app was submitted, etcbrinicolec wrote:Yeah, around April (or maybe late March), someone usually makes a Destinations thread in the other board and I suppose one could be made specifically for URMs as well.AJ1010 wrote:+1. I think it usually does, which is why it's not posted until so much later in the cycle when seat deposit dates have passed and what have you.YBF-W wrote:++1, and let's have that one include other substantive info like where folks are officially attending, gpa/LSATs, softs, advice, when app was submitted, etcbrinicolec wrote:Yeah, around April (or maybe late March), someone usually makes a Destinations thread in the other board and I suppose one could be made specifically for URMs as well.AJ1010 wrote:+1. Thanks. Didn't end up getting the Darrow actually. Ended up getting a bit less. Will prolly attend Y (assuming what I think I will get in financial aid is correct).playersball wrote:Great cycle! Although i have not heard back from all the schools i have applied to, if it came down to it, how does GW fare in terms of Big-law for the DC Market?
Im not asking in terms of debt/payoff perspective but rather in regards to employment odds. I've seen a few biglaw firms on Above the law that seem to have many of their associates come from Gw. How accurate is it?
