Unrelated: did anyone see 12 Years a Slave?? I wanted to go see it on my downtime from studying. It looks real good.

She wants me in a columbia, i want NYU. Of course ill take Columbia over NYU if i get in. But she was actually waitlisted at columbia, that was her dream schoollol. I do have a few networks with her at the schools, but who knows i have to get my lsat first. She told me penn didnt take her off the waitlist until really late, my parents actually signed a contract on a apartment in D.C because she was going to Georgetown, but then penn came out of no where and dropped everything for the "IVY". I would never go to Penn law after what my sis experienced, and my parents would killl me!!!
I really thought Penn was one of the best, especially for URMs. I visited and loved it dearly. I was, and still am, sold about the school but your story adds a yellow flag.
I hope you do get into you dream school.
Thanks AA, same to you. Its just crazy because she went to penn off all the hype. She could of been debt free right now with a georgetown degree

I don't mean to sound like I'm defending Penn (trust me, I'm not.
), but ten years ago cell phones were the size of handguns and Howard Dean was running for president. Considering that Penn today has one of the best biglaw placements in the country, this is why anecdotal evidence is exactly that -- anecdotal.
I'm sorry that happened to your sister, but I don't think that's indicative of 1) Penn and 2) Penn now.

hey. It fine to have an opinion. Im just laying out the facts from my experience with fam. If penn is doing so great though, where are all the AA's in big law now. Any reference to show where the AA's go after penn? Just because they have a huge big law number really doesn't mean anything when you take into account white america and the 95% of other penn grads that are not your skin color. Im with you that its old stats but, but where are the new stats from actuall people MINORITIES not just the stats you see on website from some supposedly legit surveyi

IMO it would be worse now. She graduated when the law market was booming, jobs galore. Jobs? Not so much of them now

Frankly, I'm not really wild about Penn's thumbing-the-nose at URMs. They're not hurting for numbers, and YPing ANY URM that has a chance at HYSCCN is really kind of shoddy admissions practice. Good for you, you get to maintain your number 7 spot on USNWR.
That said, Philly is a really great city to be an AA URM in (as opposed to Palo Alto. >_>). Last I checked, I think there's more AAs in the city than Caucasians. Definitely a plus in a lot of ways.

Trueee but you could say the same about D.C . Successful black people galore. All they care about it ranks. God forbid they drop to #8

How were her grades? Sorry if this is being too intrusive, I understand if you don't know or don't want to answer on an internet forum.amb89 wrote:californiauser wrote:If anything, it's probably worse now.twentypercentmore wrote:I don't mean to sound like I'm defending Penn (trust me, I'm not.), but ten years ago cell phones were the size of handguns and Howard Dean was running for president. That doesn't seem like the normal firm type summer, especially considering the number of firms with 100% offer rates in the boom years.amb89 wrote:californiauser wrote:On Campus Interviewing - yes, essentially big law recruiment: Penn's claim to fame is their outstanding big law placementamb89 wrote:whats OCI, big law?
yea she had her internship on wallstreet. The 2 white kids got in and they let her go. Not to sound blunt but they took 2/3.
Heres her in front of big cake at grad
Another one in cap and gown with my dad. This is penn over 10 years ago lol

grades??? lol i have no idea, shes up north im going up for thanksgiving ill talk to her more. But her grades couldn't of been horrible because she got the internship on wallstreet. Also after you have your degree, these firms look at your gradeS?[/quote]
In order to properly exploit you they must know a lot about you. yea they look at grades. your percentile defines where you can go

Has anyone who has applied to Harvard received a JS1 yet? Do URMs receive JS1 invites later in the cycle?

I wish I could change my name. Since I had to give Apple $400 to fix my display the other day. I am no longer an apple lover.

I am freaking out right now. I feel like everyone is applying except me... My UG has taken a straight up month to send in my transcript.
Do most of you go to pretty big undergrads? No one in my class is even trying to get T14, so I have no one to freak out with.

Seriously?! That's 40% of the cost of a brand new apple laptop. Maybe you can learn to love the fruit instead? You know, keep the name, change the meaning.applelover wrote:I wish I could change my name. Since I had to give Apple $400 to fix my display the other day. I am no longer an apple lover.
