Has anyone ever been to Lavender Law? (Probably not on this thread since we're 0Ls by definition). So better question would be, is anyone considering going to it?
I'm very curious about it, because it seems like Creating Change (which is awesome anyway) except much more awesome because it is focused on legal issues.

Do 1Ls typically attend?

Re: LGBT Class of 2014
First I've heard of it but it looks pretty cool. I'd probably wait and go my 2L year because of the timing. It's so early into the semester that I'd just be getting used to 1L classes and I wouldn't be able to take advantage of the career fair because of the ABA rules.applepiecrust wrote:Has anyone ever been to Lavender Law? From what I have heard, most school will not send 1Ls to the Lavender Law Conference but it is the 2Ls and 3Ls that go.aspire2more wrote:First I've heard of it but it looks pretty cool. 1Ls don't typically go; most schools are wary of you missing any class that early in the term.D-hops wrote:From what I have heard, most school will not send 1Ls to the Lavender Law Conference but it is the 2Ls and 3Ls that go.aspire2more wrote:First I've heard of it but it looks pretty cool. I'll almost definitely be going this year; it's the week after OCI finishes and it only eats into 2 possible callback days. Plus, it's extra interviews with firms I might not have gotten via bids at OCI. PLUS, it's in LA.

Checking in!
I'm excited at the overlap between this and the UChi 2014 thread, as well as the gaymers.

I'm kind of shocked there seems to be so much gay in the prospective UChi class this year. Not what I expected!JFo wrote:Checking in!

Keep in mind, I'm bi, so I'm only a half a gay.Kili wrote:+1, pleasantly surprised of course!ExpectLess wrote:I'm kind of shocked there seems to be so much gay in the prospective UChi class this year. Not what I expected!JFo wrote:Checking in!

That's good, UChi could use more gays (and bisexuals of course).

Everywhere could do with more (out) gays and bisexuals and trans people!

@ my alma mater, those who were still in the closet had secret message boards to post on, depending on your orientation. They had great titles like "Hi Fi Bis" (reference to an ATL electronics store) and my personal favorite "TRANSformers, more than meets the eye."

My undergrad has such a very long way to go on trans issues
But we are doing better with the LGB now (except when it comes to people of color, I feel).

Wait...people can be TWO minorities at the same time? NO WAI.applepiecrust wrote:But we are doing better with the LGB now (except when it comes to people of color, I feel).
My roommate for 2 years of undergrad was a blind, queer, WoC. She had a fun time.

Oh, don't even get me started on my undergrad's fail-ness at dealing with ability issues.JFo wrote:Wait...people can be TWO minorities at the same time? NO WAI.applepiecrust wrote:But we are doing better with the LGB now (except when it comes to people of color, I feel).![]()

(And, I know, right? One of my friends was joking that they invite me on so many student/youth advisory boards because they can check off so many boxes with me at once (queer, woman, PoC, international) :p)

I know I've shared this with you in personal messages but for all you young'uns out there when I was a student (applepiecrust and I share an alma mater) the LGBT group had to fight a legal battle to be recognized by the university and I never joined for fear of being seen going into one of their meetings.applepiecrust wrote:Love TRANSformers name, and tag line!JFo wrote:@ my alma mater, those who were still in the closet had secret message boards to post on, depending on your orientation. My undergrad has such a very long way to go on trans issuesOne of my close friends just began the transition process (FTM/genderqueer) after graduating (he still works for the university), and it's so hard for him.
