Re: URM 2010-2011 Application Cycle
I think different people have different priorities. Many people on TLS only care about where a school is ranked. I'd take a much lower ranked school over a higher ranked school if it fit my ends, made me happy and was cheaper.yngblkgifted wrote:UF over Harvard?chrissyc wrote:not even close. in at harvard, berkeley, UF, Iowa, NYU and Duke but only $$ from UF...I want to live in Florida after law school so if I don't get a full scholly from somewhere then I will likely end up at UF.You must really like Florida...

I've narrowed down to 3 and a half schools personally.CryingMonkey wrote:I've made my final decision at least five or six times.tkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions?? Im not even close.

still waiting on scholly dollars and other apps. But like quite a few other people, I am taking UVA's offer unless I get a full-ride elsewhere.tkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions?? Im not even close.

Let's be serious. You're probably not going to pick UF over Harvard.chrissyc wrote:not really but i don't like 100k worth of debt. lol.yngblkgifted wrote:UF over Harvard?chrissyc wrote:not even close. in at harvard, berkeley, UF, Iowa, NYU and Duke but only $$ from UF...I want to live in Florida after law school so if I don't get a full scholly from somewhere then I will likely end up at UF.You must really like Florida...

Think of how much you will most likely earn with a Harvard JD compared to how much you'll save now getting a UF JD. If you're thinking long term Harvard is a way better investment.chrissyc wrote:i sure as hell hope not but honestly i WOULD if i had to.GAIAtheCHEERLEADER wrote:Let's be serious. I'm big on the no debt too but you have to remember that Harvard has a great loan repayment program... if you take the right job its essentially a deferred free ride

Since you don't have to make a final decision for a couple of months, you can say shocking and bold things like that without any real consequences. However, when it comes down to it, I am pretty sure you're going to Cambridge. And if we have to, we (TLS) will do everything in our power to convince you. It will be like the scene in Goodwill Hunting when Ben Affleck finally tells off Matt Damon! Don't do it for you, do it for me! lol.

I know it will either be H or Stkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions?? Im not even close.
if I get into Y I might go there over H.
I guess i'm a prestige whore of sorts since I'm barely considering UVA with full at this point...

Taking HYS over UVA with a full ride is not a question of prestige whoredom; it's a reasonable, calculated decision that a lot of people would not think twice about.jd20132013 wrote:I know it will either be H or Stkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions?? Im not even close.

I also can't help but laugh at the false dillemmas ITT. You guys have awesome opportunities, but between some of the options running around in here, there really shouldn't be a tough choice.

lol i don't think it's a phobia per se. I think it's simply a preference for higher ranking, prestige, and better national placement power (no offense to UVA, of course).LLB2JD wrote:GAIAtheCHEERLEADER wrote:Taking HYS over UVA with a full ride is not a question of prestige whoredom; it's a reasonable, calculated decision that a lot of people would not think twice about.jd20132013 wrote:I know it will either be H or Stkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions?? UVA should really come up with a name for their full ride offer (the Jefferson?), I feel like that would make it a more attractive option. This is purely prestige-whorish, but you can put a named scholarship on your resume, while you can't really put (full scholarship) without seeming kind of douchey. I feel like with the Darrow or the Hamilton (or the Mordecai, for that matter) you get back some of the prestige lost by not going to a higher ranked school by being able to indicate that you received a substantial scholarship.

Yeah I think Im barely considering UVA w/ full as well but today I looked at their admit packet and it looks amazing. Im not trying to narrow down or do much of anything regarding a decision until second week of March. Im really, really hoping that Chicago decides to jump in and make this decision for me.jd20132013 wrote:I know it will either be H or Stkgrrett wrote:So how many people have made final decisions??
