I'd be down but idk about the "how" question - never used a Google group or anything like that.Tr3 wrote:I have a question for the group: Does anyone know where we could create a private group forum? All I can think of is a Google group. Also, would anyone be interested in that?
The reason I ask is because sometimes topics/questions come up that I'd like to ask but probably aren't appropriate for a public forum.
I'm not suggesting replacing this thread by any means, I'm just saying like a place to ask group questions/have conversations with a little more privacy.
Does PM have a group function?

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
I mean, we could just have a URM tinychat like we did in the june waiters thread, you can change your username whenever and don't have to use the video optionTr3 wrote:Just tried to set up a google group. I thought it was going to work because it said we could have usernames (like our TLS names), but then it said that anyone in the group could see each other's email addresses, which kind of defeats the anonymity of the forum. So I don't think that will work.
Thanks DW for testing it with me!
If anyone comes up with a different solution, please post! (unless you don't care about anonymity, I just assume some/most people would).

Means you're an auto-admit, which if anyone ever to walk this Earth is at Columbia, you are. Not sure there's much rhyme or reason to their interview invites.lc39 wrote:Eh, I have no softs so I think Y is gonna take a pass. Today I feel much more zen than yesterday. Yesterday I thought about Stanford all day and today I woke up right as they were finishing their round of calls so I know the rest of the day is gonna be silence from them.jemthey17 wrote:I can't wait to see the lucky people in this thread that end up with a Yale acceptance (cough cough, lc39). I have like zero shot at Yale myself, but I want to celebrate with my fellow URMs.lc39 wrote:It's so great that Stanford has picked up two URMs in the first two days of making calls. Definitely beats certain other schools (cough cough, Yale).
I do think it's super interesting that Stanford has only just now gotten to people with the earliest (September) complete dates...when are more recent submits gonna hear back, April? It's just curious considering even Y and H have admitted later applicants. I'm October so I'll just try to take a deep breath and think about when decisions from NU/UChi are coming. I'm also trying not to ponder what my lack of interview invite from Columbia means.

Huge congrats cc and 90!
I would definitely be down for a private group. But also no idea how it could be done. Maybe a Facebook group if people are ok with not being anon

Thanks for your kind words about Columbia. FR is...a neutral thing. I think you and Tr3 might benefit from writing a LOCI - particularly if you have strong feelings about Berkeley/California/public interest. PI is Berkeley's bread and butter so if that's what you're into I feel like they would be super receptive to hearing more about your interest in their programs/offerings.cc78 wrote:Me too...this does not feel like a good thing. Seconded on the PI advice, I think my heavy focus on public interest in my PS got me admitted much quicker than I would've been otherwiselc39 wrote:Thanks for your kind words about Columbia. Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
I submitted a "why berk" with my app. I also sent them a second-to-final draft of my PS, which contained a glaring error in the second sentence and strange sentence structure, but that was fixed on my final draft. I immediately sent them an update, but they never responded (and from what it sounds like at other schools I did this with, they could only attach the essay, not replace it). So I suspect this has affected my chances (and I've already beat myself up about it).lc39 wrote:Thanks for your kind words about Columbia. FR is...a neutral thing. Do you think it would still be good to send a LOCI even with a why berk?
(also, word to the wise... DON'T EFF UP YOUR APPLICATION TO YOUR DREAM SCHOOL). smh.
