Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
@ballcaps, I was born in the Caribbean and went to to College there as well but I recently became a U.S. permanent resident so yeah I guess I maybe considered an Afican American.
@Flokkness, money is the reason, I'm not working right now and I'm already paying to have my PS edited so I'm trying to limit my apps fee to 200 (28*6+ 4 free). I'm trying to be realistic 3-4 schools that I really really want (reach schools) + 3-4 schools that I have a 70-80% chance of getting into (target schools) + 2-3 schools that I have a 100% change of getting into (safety schools).

Ditto. I saw that and I was like, nah, I can't even.cc78 wrote:Here, here. A bummer of a day...highlighted by a crappy near Affirmative Action debate in the Northwestern forum.lc39 wrote:Today was underwhelming...I had hoped the Stanford wave would be more exciting.
Tomorrow is a new day though...

Sorry guys. I let my anger get the best of me and pushed it further than I should have. I guess it just still stings - reminds me of some nasty stuff I encountered during my UG with people insinuating I/others didn't deserve to be there.Atmosphere wrote:Ugh @ the NU AA debate

Noooooo, I think you were absolutely in the right. I'm sure a lot of us have received some form of that BS at one point or another. Honestly, success is the best revenge thoughlc39 wrote:Sorry guys. Whoa whoa whoa. That's not right at all LC. I thought you were pretty damn classy about it, if I may say so myself. He just really seemed to have an ax to grind. He brought race/AA into the discussion when I thought we were having a pretty civil talk about LSAT scores and LGPA's etc.lc39 wrote:Sorry guys. More Stanford early AM calls!
Also, LC, you definitely kept your composure. I didn't respond because I was seething.

Gotcha. Without knowing your specific situation, I think it's worth saturating the t15 with those numbers, in addition to a safety or two. A few extra bucks (assuming waivers) isn't much in the big scheme of things. Also people here are happy to read/proof for free...sashafierce wrote:@ballcaps, I was born in the Caribbean and went to to College there as well but I recently became a U.S. permanent resident so yeah I guess I maybe considered an Afican American.

Thanks everyone! And, yes, this is definitely one of my top choices it's really THE top choice, but don't let that keep you from maybe admitting me or giving me money other schools...jemthey17 wrote:OMG, OMG, OMG! It's so great that Stanford has picked up two URMs in the first two days of making calls. Definitely beats certain other schools (cough cough, Yale).

I'm sure Yale will show us some love as the cycle progresses.lc39 wrote:It's so great that Stanford has picked up two URMs in the first two days of making calls. Definitely beats certain other schools (cough cough, Yale).
It's probably too hard to predict at this point, but how do you think Stanford will treat those of us who sent in apps around christmas time?

I can't wait to see the lucky people in this thread that end up with a Yale acceptance (cough cough, lc39). I have like zero shot at Yale myself, but I want to celebrate with my fellow URMs.lc39 wrote:It's so great that Stanford has picked up two URMs in the first two days of making calls. Eh, I have no softs so I think Y is gonna take a pass. Today I feel much more zen than yesterday. Yesterday I thought about Stanford all day and today I woke up right as they were finishing their round of calls so I know the rest of the day is gonna be silence from them.jemthey17 wrote:I can't wait to see the lucky people in this thread that end up with a Yale acceptance (cough cough, lc39). I do think it's super interesting that Stanford has only just now gotten to people with the earliest (September) complete dates...when are more recent submits gonna hear back, April? It's just curious considering even Y and H have admitted later applicants. I'm October so I'll just try to take a deep breath and think about when decisions from NU/UChi are coming. I'm also trying not to ponder what my lack of interview invite from Columbia means.

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
I have a question for the group: Does anyone know where we could create a private group forum? All I can think of is a Google group. Also, would anyone be interested in that?
The reason I ask is because sometimes topics/questions come up that I'd like to ask but probably aren't appropriate for a public forum.
I'm not suggesting replacing this thread by any means, I'm just saying like a place to ask group questions/have conversations with a little more privacy.
Does PM have a group function?

I don't think PM has a group function but I like the idea. Isn't there some kind of private chat message board? I'm tech illiterate so I don't know what It's called but I've seen it
