Dropped at UChi.
Cold drop at Berkeley hurt. Cold drop at Harvard hurt more. Now I'm just numb.

read2465 wrote:JS2 today!! I interviewed on Tuesday, so needless to say, I was NOT expecting anything this soon, much less an acceptance. I am in shock--I couldn't get my phone in time and it went to voicemail. Wow. I don't feel so bad about canceling my February retake now!
I deleted some of my older posts in a fit of privacy, but I'm over it now, so here are my stats: Female MA 3.74(LSAC GPA)/3.82 (UGPA)/167 with what I think are some somewhat compelling softs.
I'm happy to answer any questions about the interview or my application. I fully credit this board for urging me to aim much higher, and I am so grateful.
Who did you interview with? KB or JS?

And the joy of money and acceptances ended for me today. Dinged at Berkeley and priority waitlisted at Georgetown. Not surprised with Berkeley but I always knew the worst case scenario was I was out $75 and they said no which is better than walking around going, "What if." Pleasantly surprised with Georgetown, I'll ride it out until mid-July, after that I feel like logistically attending is hard because it's just not enough time to pack up and move. The only things I'm worried about is that this doesn't seem to bode well for the rest of my T-14 chances, especially Columbia and NYU, I would happily go $150k+ into debt for either of those schools.

BTW, for those of you who applied to Cornell and had your file go complete in the last month: did your status checker say they would be making a decision by mid-to-late April?
I'm seriously considering withdrawing... that's borderline disrespectful to deliver a decision as late as LATE APRIL. Sheesh.
Edit: Grammar

It seems like a lot more URM's did end up applying this cycle after all. A lot of you guys came out of the woodwork out of no where. Does anyone know where we can get year by year comparisons of minority applicants?

Nope. Went down. See the LSAC PDF on # of LSAT test-takers. URM test takers (especially AA males) have been dropping since 2009. Can't apply to law school without an LSAT. Therefore and such.bizzybone1313 wrote:It seems like a lot more URM's did end up applying this cycle after all. A lot of you guys came out of the woodwork out of no where. Hey, I applied in Dec. (12/3) and went complete in Jan. (1/11). I received an email from Cornell with the mid-to-late April thing, but my status checker never said that. It was stuck at complete with no movement, then showed changing dates (I am guessing those are UR dates). Honestly, that is a strange message to put in a status checker.PRgradBYU wrote:BTW, for those of you who applied to Cornell and had your file go complete in the last month: did your status checker say they would be making a decision by mid-to-late April?

Some statistical analysis in addition to the point above for any interested: http://www.lsac.org/lsacresources/data/ ... stered.aspJohn_rizzy_rawls wrote:Nope. Went down. Test takers have declined for the June, October, and December 2012 tests 5.6, 16.4, 15.6% respectively from the 2011-2012 which was the biggest overall LSAT test taker drop year in over a decade (2001-2002). Historically, as in every single year, URM test takers (especially AA) correlate to non-URM test takers. In the last 5 years they have been generally plummeting at an equal or faster rate than non-URMs.
Here for some of that analysis breakdown: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 6&t=199581 and http://www.lsac.org/lsacresources/resea ... -12-03.pdf
For AAs, 1,100+ less applied to law school in 2012. Their mean LSAT was 142.5 with a standard deviation of 8.5, meaning a 168 puts you at exactly 3 standard deviations above the mean.
To put that in context, an equivalent score for a Caucasian applicant would be a 180. Yes a AA 168 is a Caucasian 180. Caucasian mean = 152.88, standard deviation = 8.94. 3 standard deviations above the mean is 179.7 which is really just a 180.
So yeah. Very very very few AAs score that. And the number is not going up, it's been going down. So not only are URMs not applying but the quality of those URMs is declining, as is the case with the entire applicant pool.
If it seems like there's a bunch of qualified URMs and applicants writ large on this site it's because people who care enough to find and engage TLS are, shockingly, the same people who are willing to study hard, and put forth a great effort into applying to law school.
We are not the representative sample for law school applicants.

Hey, I understand your frustration but I would not take the statement about mid to late April as an expected decision date for your particular application. I think that they are just saying that they guarantee that everyone who applied will have a decision by mid to late April but that may mean that many applicants will get a decision well before that time period. I don't know for sure that my reading is accurate but I have seen statements from some schools saying that decisions will be completed by x date but many will receive their decisions before that date.PRgradBYU wrote:BTW, for those of you who applied to Cornell and had your file go complete in the last month: did your status checker say they would be making a decision by mid-to-late April?

However, for your personal situation maybe it is reasonable to set a date such as March 15 to say I'll withdraw from X school if I don't have a decision depending, of course, upon your other offers.

Congrats and I'm definitely glad you'll not have to retake the LSAT and sit out a year. Hopefully, well actually clearly, you'll see a few folks on this thread with you in the fall. (But hopefully I'll get a call soon.)mommalee wrote:Thanks all! Congrats jcan!

Yeah. Even if their intent is to deliver all decisions by the end of March, that message is a bit daunting.bosmer88 wrote:Hey, I applied in Dec. (12/3) and went complete in Jan. (1/11). That's what I figured when I read into it more. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they do in fact get back to me well before mid-to-late April!ck3 wrote:Hey, I understand your frustration but I would not take the statement about mid to late April as an expected decision date for your particular application. I wish I could go back in time and done everything possible to graduate with a 4.0. Unfornuately, I didn't know how law school admissions worked at the time. I didn't know they were such number whores. I have a good GPA, but it isn't a 4.0. It would have saved me from so much stress and time with the wonderful test that is the LSAT.

First post. AA male, 3.5/163. (Numbers slightly fudged) Good luck everyone and congrats on all of these amazing acceptances. I'm entering week 4 after my JS1. The wait is getting rough!

Could be worse. Could be like me and not get a JS1 at all. Almost been a month since I've gone complete and nothing.wildeone wrote:First post. AA male, 3.5/163.
