Got really excited when I glanced at my email inbox....then realized the new email from 'Stanford' Law was actually from 'Samford' Law. FML.

Just saw this...glad it wasn't just me. I haven't researched the school...have a feeling it's just a cruel (albeit funny) prank.Damn Samford Law always emailing me and making my heart skip a beat

Random question that I should've known the answer to before sending apps but if you send apps after you've taken an lsat but before scores come out, do you need to contact those schools to give them your score or do they see it automatically? I'm just worried because lsac shows an updated report going out for my last transcript, but it never said anything about new reports after my score.

The schools will receive the new score. But it does not hurt to update them yourself. It is actually recommended to do so, when your score has increased.

Oh it's cruel, but no prank. This place is real and in Alabama. Fun fact: it has more Supreme Court Justices (2) among its alumni than the University of Chicago (0).gold33 wrote:Just saw this...glad it wasn't just me. Haha did the exact same thing. I haven't even applied there!gold33 wrote:Got really excited when I glanced at my email inbox....then realized the new email from 'Stanford' Law was actually from 'Samford' Law. FML.
Also with you guys on the URII 12/11. I'm starting to worry about all my apps now. The NYU one is the last I sent in, but definitely my best app because I had noticed little issues with all the others. The fact that I'm getting no love from the rest is making me wonder if those issues are bigger than I realised

I know what you mean. I noticed about halfway through submitting my apps that my PS had a very embarrassing typo and my resume had a couple of bad mistakes. Fortunately, I've gotten into several of the schools that received these flawed pieces, so as long as the issues aren't HUGE, I'm thinking you'll similarly be okay.alloverthat wrote:

Thanks. Other people have said the same, so I'm not stressing *too* much. But every time a wave goes out I get antsycc78 wrote:I know what you mean. Penn historically has not been kind to URM applicants for whatever reason (maybe they've been burned in the past by URMs who took T6 instead and now YP the hell out of strong URMs).wsag826 wrote:Same...UR1 12/11 at Penn...what is lifecc78 wrote:This is the cold dark world that I still, sadly, inhabit. You can see it here: http://mylsn.info/opqvql/
Definitely write a Why Penn if you haven't already.

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
Most definitely, LC. Penn looks like the worst offender of them all. I went back to mylsn and tilted the LSAT to a good, but not spectacular 160-165 range:

Here it is just for AA candidates:

Here's URM splitters:

UVA, to me, is executing something closer to a pure YP strategy--they are turning away folks they think have solid T6 options, but are definitely open to URM folks who have strong credentials but shakier chances up higher. Penn on the other hand, might just not be that into the whole URM thing? I mean it might make some sense. NYU is highly predictable for URMs and it's possible Penn loses more often than not to NYU in trying to grab students. For most NYC>Philly even with the COA differential.

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
Submitted my first two apps last night! Then danced around my kitchen with my roommate (can't even imagine if I actually manage to get into some places). Only bad side -- probably should do more proofreading/editing but after a year of this process, my current mood is "I don't even care right now."
Congrats on the recent good news! Adding the "Why UPenn" to my to-do list.

Thanks for doing those CC. I guess it works for Penn and that's why they do it but it can't help but leave a bad taste in my mouth. Why not at least try to tempt some URMs with nice schollies?

Re: URM 2014-2015 Cycle Thread
The easy answer is that Penn just doesn't have the resources to offer scholarships at the degree or level to draw those high flying URM students. It's a shame--Penn for free definitely trumps for me paying even a dime for CCN, assuming normal goals. Could be a fund-raising issue (though the number of well heeled Penn Law alums should be considerable, especially when you think about the number of JD/MBAs who took more of the Wharton path and have major $$). I did just think though that Penn might be the only top school where the law school is significantly less prestigious than the business school.lc39 wrote:Thanks for doing those CC. Quick analysis:
Yale Law>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Yale b-school
HBS > HLS
SLS=Stan. GSB
Chicago Law = Chicago Booth
Columbia Law >> Columbia GSB
NYU Law >>>>> NYU Stern
Wharton >>>>>>> Penn Law
Could also be that the University demands more contribution income from the law school, making tuition remission harder to come by.
Sorry for the rambling...I have particular interest in their odd behavior.

I noticed that too. I felt like the main message of their viewbook was 'come to Penn Law and you can take courses at Wharton.'cc78 wrote: I did just think though that Penn might be the only top school where the law school is significantly less prestigious than the business school.

This is actually sort of the impression I got from speaking to the admissions dean at the NYC L.A.W.S. event last year. That being said, I don't really think it's a bad thing to go to Penn Law and get to know students at Wharton.gold33 wrote:I noticed that too. Also, submitted my last app this week and officially checking in for the cycle.

Yikes I think I might have accidentally changed something I shouldn't have on the spreadsheet. Clicked on the wrong tab, then hit undo but undid someone elses work? I tried to fix it but if anyone sees that a value has been changed then I'm really sorry that was me

Think everything is fine, everyone might check and update any results. Added some more formatting to color code additional answers.alloverthat wrote:Yikes I think I might have accidentally changed something I shouldn't have on the spreadsheet.
