Strong feelings about California: CA is great, I love it! I grew up here, my whole family is here, I want to work here.
Cons about attending law school in CA: Probably only really worth it if you're going to Stanford or really want to end up in California. Berkeley's merit aid is lackluster and UCLA is a regional so I'm guessing you're not considering it. I probably would have skipped my Berkeley app if I wasn't gunning for SF/SV.

Seems like NYC and Chicago have taken the lead...curious if y'all are from the area or just like the cities.
Personal fun fact: I've never been further east in the U.S. than Phoenix, Arizona.
Oh, LC...you have to do some ASW's on the East Coast. It's a little, um, different, than the Bay Area

Oh I'm definitely going to be taking advantage of ASWs. Logistically though it's kind of a nightmare. 11 of my schools are just so many miles away...We'll have to see how much my wallet can take and how much work I can miss.

Such a nightmare!!!!
Also, check for any that have specific URM ASW dates. I know UCLA's is April 10-12 (or something like that). I'm so excited because they will pay for the trip; BUT it's also on the same weekend as other ASWs.

Chicago feels less cramped than NYC with similar options and lots of culture. Who knows, I might hate it after 3 years but at the moment it's where I think I'd like to be.
I definitely will visit UChi/NU if I'm lucky enough to get in! Seems like a cool place. I'm definitely a bit sick of doing the suburban thing for so long...living in a city like NYC or Chicago would be a great change of pace (at least for a few years).
Im the exact opposite. I grew up and went to UG in the city, now I just wanna get out, go somewhere a little slower paced for a few years before I go back to living in the city.

Also congrats on Cornell canadianbro!! Hope MVP come through for you soon. Why no T6 though??
As an international, I'd have to take out private loans and Canadian schools would cost me about $20k a year total COA. No chance a T6 school would give enough $$$ to make it worthwhile ( atleast 120k scholly) so I only applied to schools where there is a chance.

Cabro-
I get your point, especially when it comes to T6. But depending on what your stats/softs look like you may be selling yourself short. You never know how things will play out at the top 3.

SH - gpa too low, and I have zero softs. Just a boring a k-jd
3.3 (3.4 once new transcript is processed) 169 k-jd with zero softs.

I'm actually really jealous of everyone going to ASWs... I live in Europe and hadn't been planning on moving back to the States until May but now I'm wondering how I'm going to commit to a school without having spent any time there. :/
Also, as a California native, all I can say is there is nothing better, in my opinion, than coming into work when your firm overlooks the Santa Monica boardwalk.

TBH I personally don't find school visits that important. My ASW experience in undergrad was completely not indicative of what the next four years would be like (in a good way, I had a terrible experience) and I probably would have been more secure in my decision to attend if I hadn't visited at all. But I made my undergrad decision based on financial aid $$$ so YMMV. If school fit is super duper important to you, you might want to head back stateside a bit earlier.

anyone else? anyone considering? full tuition at NYU is pretty, er, desirable, but the stipulations are really limiting...

Got the email last month when I got in but I got a call from a 1L today asking me if I got that email and if I'll be applying.
Personally it's tempting but I won't be applying for a few reasons:
a) I probably couldn't get an effective LOR speaking to my commitment to PI.
b) If I really was PI-or-bust, I think Harvard is better because ultimately I would be relying on LRAP regardless so limiting debt doesn't make a ton of sense to me.

I applied for RTK. The stips definitely don't look great, but there looked to me to be some wiggle room. As far as I can tell RTK is a pretty nice credential to have and can open doors. Could be I'm just drinking the kool-aid.

Thank you!! I'm so shocked. They were pretty unkind to URMs last cycle and didn't show much love to people above LSAT median, below GPA median. So I had them in my mental WL category. Thanks for proving me wrong Penn!!
Just got the call like 10 mins ago.
