I will be spending my BIRTHDAY and 4TH OF JULY at the institute.
Haha, woo! Let the Iowa party begin!! I forgot about 4th of July. I know in the past institutes, they have taken them to baseball games or something for weekends/July 4th fun. We'll see what Des Moines has in store for us.
One of my friends moved to IA to go to U of Iowa and took a picture off her balcony... corn fields as far as the eye could see. I'm excited for the beautiful scenery on my 6-7 hour bus ride from Chi-town. *sigh*

I have an acceptance letter.
As of now, I'll see yall at one of the locations. Were any of the accepted applicants allowed to choose their site?

I think a year or two ago someone was placed in Denver because of proximity, but they had family/friends in San Diego and called to request to be moved. If you have a preference, I'd let them know sooner rather than later, as they start filling spots when people fail to make deposit deadlines.

No problem. Do you just desire Iowa so much that you don't want to take a gamble being placed by the beach and far away from the miles of corn fields?

Yeah I'm a couple years out of undergrad w/a full-time job. If I was coming out of undergrad, would have been NO WAY in hell I could have paid this. Notwithstanding the travel cost, it's a pretty serious endeavor.

I am participating, right out of undergrad... I am interested in just about everything CLEO offers. I just wish I knew what the qualifications were for said offerings, especially scholarship

I just got a letter in the mail about ICLEO. Apparently the state of Indiana has it's own CLEO program. I'm trying to figure out if I should apply to this one or not since I already applied to the other CLEO. It's free but you have to go to one of the four Indiana schools (IU-B, IU-Maurer, Valpo, and Notre Dame) What do you guys think? Anyone heard of this?

If you're set on staying in Indiana, that might be better if it's free. I have heard of it, but not sure on all the details. Do they offer scholarships like the CLEO SSI? Or just placement assistance to Indiana schools?

I'm not set on any location. I'm from Chicago so I may want to come back here at some point. The program is basically the same thing as the regular CLEO, it offers placement and large stipends up to 20k. But no trips to DC and no bar exam stipends from what I've read. Also it's a smaller program so only about 30 students attend.

In today via snail mail...applied early February, interview a week later. The letter didn't specify which location I'd be placed at.
All apps are still pending...except for a waitlist at UVA.
Anyone know how specifically CLEO affects applications. I'm still a bit unclear in how they intervene and the whole sponsor process?

I think we all are. It's kind of hard to show the facts that would prove so. We're just TRUSTING, or HOPING rather, that that aspect of the program description holds its weight.

Also, not admitted at any law schools yet...waitlisted at UVA.

To be honest, they don't really do a lot for you. They expect you to do it for yourself. Send a letter to UVA letting them know of your acceptance to CLEO SSI and ask if they would weigh that in their decision. That's what I did for SMU and got in with a 151. They didn't mention CLEO in my admit letter, but I'm sure any little bit helps. Lots of others for SMU were W/L and flat out rejected, so I'm sure CLEO had some bearing on my admission.
Anyway, it has worked in the past. The way I see it is CLEO provides the prep for 1L and it's our job to do the footwork and use CLEO to look as appealing as possible to potential schools.

I'm not interested in having TLS know who I am, so I won't join it for a min (or until a couple of folks join).
I might attract other Cali folks tho.

I'll be at the Iowa one. San Diego beats Iowa hands down but I would probably have too much fun there!
