Last Second Help Needed!!!!

Post by UFvsWashingLee1 » Wed Jul 03, 2019 4:33 pm

Scores
3.14 GPA
168 LSAT

Goal
District Attorney in Small-to-Midsize City

Schools in consideration/COA
Washington and Lee ~81k
University of Florida ~50k

I was originally deposited at Washington and Lee only. Today, the University of Florida called and offered me a Full-Tuition scholarship, guaranteed for all three years (Out of State Student). Florida was already my second choice anyway, and it was hard to say no the first time. That being said, I've already signed a lease, and paid both deposits at W&L. In addition, I have ~25k of family aid promised for law school, which isn't accounted for in the COA numbers, as I figured it would be better to show the full + true COA at both. UF gave me until early next week to respond.

Thanks in advance.

This 100% comes down to which state you want your “small to medium sized city” to be in. I don’t think either school will make you marketable outside of their State except for maybe your home town because of local ties (where are you from? Planning to go back?)

Anyway, I would swing UF because it’s cheaper for you and Florida is a bigger state. Come in day 1 of law school with a game plan. Grades are everything. After 1L do everything (law review, mock trial, judicial externship) and you could be competitive for a local DA position. But beware that small county DA offices don’t hire very often.

@ESQ92 - If I don't have any real geographic preference (the only 2 states I have ties to are Florida and Virginia, so toss up on that front) does that make UF or W&L the better option? W&L only placed 23% of grads in Virginia, the rest went elsewhere in the US (DC +NY both around 11%). Is this due to a saturated home state, or because W&L's name carries better than UF? Thanks
