NYU 75k vs GULC 150k

Post by Fane » Sat Mar 31, 2018 5:04 am

Multi-lingual, interested in international work based in a top city. Possibly corporate crime and compliance-related field. Have a social network in both places.

Personal pros for NYU
-The obvious ones
-Its program on corporate crime and compliance sounds awesome
-Most likely better job opps in NYC for the mrs
-Have never lived in NYC, new experience
-Less stress/test anxiety knowing I could be bottom half of class and still land a great job

Pros for GULC
-Could graduate completely debt free
-I know I like DC, wouldn’t mind landing there
-Bigger class size, might be easier to blend in as a 30yr old 1L who has a few thoughts about identity politics
-Nice gym with indoor basketball court, ideal outlet for me for coping with stress
-Seeing the sky for three years
-The chance that I get the same caliber job I would have coming from NYU
-For some reason my (unreliable) gut keeps telling me GULC

Assuming you can deal with 150k in loans, I would pick NYU. GT isn't even in the same stratosphere of any of the t13 schools with employment outcomes. I would ask NYU to up the scholarship but I think NYU is the much better choice.

A big question is how would you be paying for school? I personally don't think GULC debt free is a bad idea.

I would agree with this statement. It really depends on how much debt you are willing to take on, though. It is a lot of money. Have you considered/are you considering Cornell, Northwestern, or maybe Michigan (not sure about this last one in terms of generosity)? They typically offer higher scholarships than NYU and better employment outcomes than GT.
