Re: GULC ($) VS WUSTL ($$$) - Biglaw
If you're not in biglaw, what job do you envision yourself getting? Because last I checked, visa requirements were not about to ease up, and biglaw firms are still the only places that are somewhat reliable for sponsoring international lawyers. And if you don't get biglaw, are you ok going back to your home country to work?
Between these two, take the cheaper option, but neither is a stellar option for biglaw. Despite your saying that you aren't "biglaw or bust", you haven't articulated any alternative career paths, so that's troubling.

Thank you for your answer! If I can't get H1B visa, I will try to get a job in Tokyo/Seoul or Hong Kong (I live in one of these cities). There are a lot of US attorneys practicing there. I have done my research and graduates from both schools seem to be doing fine there.cavalier1138 wrote:If you're not in biglaw, what job do you envision yourself getting? Then go to WashU. Georgetown isn't worth the extra money.twozeroone wrote:Thank you for your answer! Thank you! Can I ask why? I'm serious leaning towards WashU right now.

The massive cost difference. And it's not like Georgetown has great biglaw prospects to pay a premium for, so why splurge?twozeroone wrote:Thank you! Can I ask why? I'm serious leaning towards WashU right now.Rigo wrote:WUSTL

This might be helpful. It looks to me that WUSTL is the clear pick with the huge difference in cost. WUSTL is only 10 percentage points lower in Big Law + Clerkship, and has a higher overall employment score as well.

Wow this is really helpful! I'll try to negotiate with GULC because I seriously want to go there, but I don't think they will budge..somebodyelse wrote:https://www.lstreports.com/compare/washu/gulc/

I wonder just how much shit Georgetown is getting since the new rankings with people feeling wholly justified in demanding they match UCLA and such.grades?? wrote:well both are t20 schools, tell GT that WUSTL in a peer school in negotiations

Re: GULC ($) VS WUSTL ($$$) - Biglaw
Its gotta be devastating. If i was an applicant with a full ride from WUSTL, I would be demanding a match from GT because they are peers now. GT would have just ignored previously, but they gotta do something or soon they will just be an irrelevant tttt.Rigo wrote:I wonder just how much shit Georgetown is getting since the new rankings with people feeling wholly justified in demanding they match UCLA and such.grades?? wrote:well both are t20 schools, tell GT that WUSTL in a peer school in negotiations

Re: GULC ($) VS WUSTL ($$$) - Biglaw
As a wustl student, gulc and wustl are not peers. A median student at gulc still has a coin-toss chance of getting biglaw from OCI. A median student at wustl can get biglaw... but he or she isn't getting any interviews with biglaw firms at OCI and will have to hustle/network/get lucky/mass mail their ass off to get interviews. Big difference.
That said, gulc is worth maybe like... 40k more than wustl. Definitely take the full ride + stipend.

Re: GULC VS WUSTL
I firstly asked about schools' biglaw placement solely for visa purposes (I wanted to move from biglaw to PI in the long term), but I have found out that H1B visa cap does not apply to NGO jobs. I want to do PI so I want to try to talk to GULC if they can give me more money before I make a final decision! Thank you for everyone's help!

It's kind of amazing how much credence people give to ONE spot in some silly magazine ranking.
