UVA or Michigan?

Post by at593 » Mon Mar 06, 2017 11:01 pm

I've assumed I would go to Michigan since I got my acceptance email in November. I did my undergrad there, I love Ann Arbor, my family is close by, and it's only 2.5 hours away from my boyfriend, who will be attending medical school at Case Western this fall. I also have a 75k scholarship there. Buuuuut I also really want to do biglaw (and a clerkship) after law school, and that NLJ article today about biglaw jobs really spooked me.

Would going to UVA at sticker over Michigan with a 75k scholarship significantly increase my chances of getting the career that I want? Is it worth the extra money and the distance from my boyfriend and family? I really love Michigan, but their numbers are making me nervous.

Going to UVA at sticker for a truly marginal better chance at biglaw/clerkships makes no sense, particularly with your personal circumstances.

When I got to this point of the setup, I assumed that you were going to say you had a large scholarship to UVA and no aid at Michigan. That would make your thread-title question interesting, given your personal circumstances. But it's actually the other way around. I don't think this is a difficult decision: Michigan.
