My other concern here is that of course if I could retake and score a good bit higher that would be great. Ive underperformed on both tests, significantly on the second one, but from what I've seen and heard, the data points to me doing about the same if I try again. If I opt to try again and do about the same, I'm probably forgoing a full scholarship to Illinois and am stuck where I am now for another year where I'm either in a job I hate or something temporary that is probably just to fill time.BigZuck wrote:+1BigZuck wrote:Just retake the LSAT and find a way to go to Fordham (or a better school) for cheapsies if you want to stay in NYC.

Can you hold your seat at Illinois, retake in June, and decide what to do at that point?Metapod wrote:My other concern here is that of course if I could retake and score a good bit higher that would be great. I could do that but I'd be worried that I wouldn't be giving myself enough time to properly dive back in and study given my full-time job and this being the last of my available takes in a two-year spantncats wrote:Can you hold your seat at Illinois, retake in June, and decide what to do at that point?Metapod wrote:My other concern here is that of course if I could retake and score a good bit higher that would be great. Then what's the easy answer? If you say retake, what do I do for the extra year?Colonel_funkadunk wrote:op i feel misled. i came to this thread thinking there would be some sort of difficult decision contained within it.

Re: Illinois ($$$) v Fordham ($) v Retake (June or Sept)
Do I have enough time to get prepped and take the LSAT in June? What do you all think. I have a full time job

Yeah. 3+ months. Just need to commit to a schedule and prioritize studying.Metapod wrote:Do I have enough time to get prepped and take the LSAT in June? What do you all think. I have a full time job

Thanks. Maybe that's the best option. I can always hold off until September then if I don't feel like I'm doing well enoughRigo wrote:Yeah. 3+ months. Thanks. So why doesn't your SO want to leave Pennsylvania? You would be moving back home though? Regardless I wouldn't break up with someone I truly loved to go to law school.Metapod wrote:I actually have a lot of support through family and friends in the Illinois area. OP: don't break up with someone you really love to go to law school in Illinois where you have no friends or family or support. Retake and get a better deal in NYC where there are many law schools and where your SO and you seem to be very happy.
I understand why someone from NYC wouldn't want to live in Illinois and vice versa. It isn't as if there is only one school you can attend to be a lawyer.
And as I said originally, I really can't do another year at my job and stay sane so I'd have to find something else for less than a year to fill up the time I would take to study all over again, retake, and reapply (drawing a blank on what I could do that would still look okay to a law school). Maybe retake is the right option, but I just thought I'd add the information given the quotes post.

Most of SO's family is in Pennsylvania or New York. SO will be in New York starting a job before the end of the year. I wouldn't be living with family if I went back to the Midwest but I'd be significantly closer which would be nice. Also if I had to pick now I'd most likely want to end up in Chicago but that's partly because of hearing some bad stories about big law in new york and partly because I've never felt too attached to NYCNpret wrote:Thanks. You can't discount NYC because of the size of the market and Chicago's market is small anyway.
Would your SO really break up with you if your career was in Chicago?

I'm beginning to think I'll have to come to terms with redoing the whole study thing and retake in June. And then need to find another job while I reapply next cycle. And yes, my SO has made very clear that we would be broken up if my career was in Chicago.Npret wrote:Retake is your best option and will also give you more time to figure this out.Metapod wrote:Most of SO's family is in Pennsylvania or New York. I have no place telling you about your relationship, but retake, get Northwestern/Chicago/Michigan, leave his ass, and never look back.

Re: Illinois ($$$) v Fordham ($) v Retake (June or Sept)
Sorry that's blunt, but it doesn't sound like he's willing to compromise at all. Unless there's more to the story like he could never leave a sick parent he cares for in PA, then I just think he's being an ass and doesn't value your dreams.
Don't take on that amount of debt for Fordham, and no one should commute from Pennsylvania to law school in NYC and back everyday.
The fact of the matter is it sounds like you're out in rural PA and he's unwilling to relocate at all. You want to move back to the Midwest and at the very least would likely need to move for school for three years.
You will have to make tough choices either way. Give up or forgo opportunities for yourself to stay with him or give him up. I don't envy your predicament. I hope it all works out for you.

Thank you. Definitely a hard choice that I'll have to put a lot of thought into. Currently thinking about getting the powerscore books and taking another crack at the test in June. I'm not looking forward to that stress and all consuming studying for a third time though.Rigo wrote:Sorry that's blunt, but it doesn't sound like he's willing to compromise at all. Re: Help
So update after June, I got a 166, a six-point jump but still a bit disappointing. I'm thinking it's not enough to warrant reapplying to better schools because I just don't think I'd get enough scholarship money.
But I'd love to hear all your thoughts
