Same $15000/yr from a #70s and a #30s school
$15000/yr scholarship from two schools.
One is ranked around 30th and the other around 70th.
My question is:
Is it possible to ask the lower ranking school to come up with more money?
If so, by how much?
Thanks again!

No one can even begin to give a good answer without the school names.

Just curious. Seemed like a reasonable question without knowing the names of the schools.

It's not a good question because schools don't negotiate strictly based on USNWR. They negotiate if they consider them competitors for applicants. So, for instance, Davis is more likely to negotiate based off Irvine or Pepperdine than they would if we're talking Tennessee, for example. The rankings don't matter past a certain point, so not naming the schools doesn't help because admissions don't treat these scholarship offers equal based on USNWR rankings.O.J. wrote:Why?cavalier1138 wrote:No one can even begin to give a good answer without the school names.

Also, the question is kind of a moot point because the only proven way to find out if a school will negotiate is to, you know, negotiate. Try it, and if they say no, you're where you started to begin with. They won't pull a scholarship offer because you try to negotiate.
OP, if you want to negotiate for more money, then respectfully do so. And if you want indications based on previous experience, name the schools and ask.

OP we need more information here. If you dont want to out the schools at least say whether they are both in your target market and what your career goals are and total debt would be. You seem to want to make a decision jist based on USNWR ranking.

OP- People can read through your past posts. No reason to be coy about the school names.

His past posts are about Depaul and John Marshall - neither fit this question (not in the 30s or 70s), FWIW.BigZuck wrote:OP- People can read through your past posts. No reason to be coy about the school names.
Although, I did see him ask if 24-25 is too old, previously. Most schools have a median age of between 24-26 -- certainly no where near too old. I'll be 30 when I matriculate, fyi. I've also visited 5 or 6 schools so far and most students seem to be in their mid-20s.
As for socially, this isn't high school. You make friends because of common interests, not because they are your exact age.

I don't know what any of those schools are ranked because it doesn't matter in the slightest. The OP also mentioned Loyola and Kent before.bmathers wrote:His past posts are about Depaul and John Marshall - neither fit this question (not in the 30s or 70s), FWIW.BigZuck wrote:OP- People can read through your past posts. Also the OP didn't ask if 24-25 was too old.

Correct. I didn't realize the post was in response to someone else asking that.BigZuck wrote:Also the OP didn't ask if 24-25 was too old.
Loyola and Kent still don't match his descriptions, however (neither are near the 30s, after looking... unless if one had a sizable jump over the past year). I'm thinking these are two new schools??
OP - the question is, are these both feeding the same geographic area? Is it where you want to practice? What are their employment percentages?? Those questions are much more informative and important than an arbitrary USNWR ranking.
