I am sorry if this topic has been done a hundred thousand times. However I cannot find a thread on it since the change in big law firm pay.
How much in debt would you be willing to take out for HYS? How much do you think could be justified in terms of economics?

Re: How much debt for HYS?
It's relative right? If full ride at CCN, probably take CCN.
If full ride at lower t14? Depends again. Maybe if HYS was like $50k more in total I'd take it. This probably wouldn't be the case though considering max fin aid at H caps out at like 35k or something a year.
All these numbers are obviously also pulled out of my ass for what I'd feel comfortable doing. YMMV.

I agree with BizBro in that it is relative.
Especially when it comes to HYS, it is really a matter of what it is worth to YOU. It always depends on what your career goals are. For example, if you want to get a clerkship, perhaps Y becomes worth way more than a full-ride at Northwestern. Idk, like BizBro said, I'm basically pulling this out of my ass, but that is how I see it anyways.

Re: How much debt for HYS?
I don't think anyone should take out more than $200k in loans right now for law school, unless they are committed to LRAP with proven public interest work experience after college, or they have no other reasonable way to attend for less cost or pursue another career option. There's no reason to borrow over $200,000 to attend one school when another very comparable school is substantially cheaper.
Yale might be an exception due to its particularly lenient repayment program. "H", "Y", and "S" are not the same.

In other words, any statements on this subject are full of caveats, and people's experiences are bound to be colored by their rationalization.

Only on TLS does H get grouped together with Y
