Duke + $$ v UPenn
So I'm already committed to Duke so far, but I got a call from Penn about continued interest. Assuming the interview/call goes well, I'll have to make a decision. Duke + $67k v Penn (I'm guessing full sticker price since merit aid is probably out at this point and I doubt I'll get anything need-based).
I've got Ivy undergrad and am interested in IP, but more art & copyright, as I don't have any technical background. So, I'm assuming most jobs will be NY or California based. Duke seems like it has a more comprehensive IP program, but Penn is higher ranked, Ivy, and better location. Which would you guys suggest?

Out in California, Duke and Penn are basically peers. I don't know about NYC, but I can't imagine that Penn is worth $70K more than Duke.sadgrl wrote:So I'm already committed to Duke so far, but I got a call from Penn about continued interest. Also, it's very difficult to get job in non-patent IP law. You shouldn't count on that working out for you. If you wouldn't be happy at a law firm doing something else, don't take on a bunch of debt to go to law school.

It seems like this is one of those time where you can just be open and honest with Penn about what you want.
If this were me, I would let Penn know that you'd prefer to go there over Duke (IF that's the case) but you cannot justify the additional expense. So, if they match then you will accept, but if they can't at least throw you something, you're going to have to decline.
You really don't have too much to lose, so I think you can basically just ask for what you want from Penn and if they are unwilling to meet it, then Duke is always there.
I second ^ about debt.

Just tell us which one you would like to be talked into.
It's always so hard to answer questions such as this, because, are you asking what I would do? Or what you should do? If it is the latter, a lot more needs to be added in for us to know really what you should decide on. Assuming you are not to fond of Law School, you should go to the one that offers more money. I can assume that you may be from a wealthy background, so go to Penn.

"Ivy" really doesn't have much to do with law schools. It's an undergrad sports league.
I hated that when I visited Cornell they kept mentioning the Ivy league. It was just their way of trying to put themselves on the same level as H/Y.
