WUSTL half vs. UVA sticker

Post by Baller23 » Thu Jun 09, 2016 3:55 pm

Obviously, quite self explanatory. But I'm really unsure what I should do here.

Way more information is needed. Consult this thread for specifics: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=206299

Well, I'm not retaking the LSAT because I'm just not willing to take a year off. I'm a reverse splitter, and I'm from the Midwest. I have significant ties in Texas, but I'm open to working in the entire Midwest region as well as the Atlantic coast.

I will only be taking out loans to pay for actual tuition at both schools. So for WashU, around $60k, and at UVA $180k. That would end up being my debt at both school, respectively. Would like to work in big law or public interest. Different ends of the spectrum, I understand. But these are just my interests.

Neither are good options. If you really actually want biglaw (It's ok, 180k is a lot), then:

Retake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> UVA >> WUSTL

Would you take a year off and retake for $180k?

What else do you have that you can use to negotiate with?
Half from WuSTL might get you some money off UVA, if you have something solid in terms of a close to peer offer you might be able to move WUSTL to 2/3 or 3/4 maybe even full tuition if you're aggressive, which you can take to UVA to get $.
Always negotiate.

Ok, so without more information, here's what I got:

You should retake the LSAT. You not being willing to take a year off is, frankly, a childish position to take. A year off with a higher score will net you a full scholarship at WashU (they give them out like candy) and money at schools that are better positioned to place you in Chicago biglaw.

If you want to do PI, then go to UVA, but you need to be 100% committed to that track, because you'll be relying on LRAP/PSLF to dig you out of the debt you got into. Otherwise, it just isn't worth it at sticker, especially when you could just put in a modicum of extra effort and get yourself a scholarship.

reverse splitter means auto-retake, i don't care what your situation is. if you're a reverse splitter that made it to UVa means you're probably a 3.9x/4.0 which makes this conversation all the more insane. making a decision between WUSTL half and UVa sticker is trivial compared to the decision to retake.

TCR. OP I was a reverse-splitter with a 4.05 167 and HYS ambitions. Yet, I was "afraid" to work at subway for a year so instead I ED'd UVA. Things turned out fine, but that's not really the point is it? I ignored TLS b/c I was stubborn.

The only answer is RETAKE. If you don't, then you may possibly live with regrets (as I do).

How are reverse splitters not able to get a respectable job for a year with their high UGPAs.

Same reason splitters do so much better than reverse-splitters. Tons of high GPAs out there, grade inflation is insane. Supposedly the most common grade at 4 year schools is a straight A now.

Having just graduated UG, I can attest to this. Over half of my major graduated with honors this year....
