Vandy vs. Reapply
So I am currently on the WL at Michigan, GULC, and Northwestern, and have been accepted at University of Illinois full ride, UT-Austin with a 120k scholarship, and Vandy with a 120k scholarship. Michigan was my top choice, so that was a bummer, but will stay on the waitlist as long as I can. Scores 168/3.74. I applied late in the cycle (aka my last LOR got in Feb 14 for Feb 15 deadlines...) and wonder if that had to do with all of my WLs. I liked Vandy when I visited, but after visiting Michigan it has confirmed my love for it, and though I'm literally right on the medians for both LSAT and GPA I was wondering if waiting and reapplying next cycle ED for Mich (I know TLS hates ED) might be a good option for me.
I was hoping to go straight through to law school, so I was going to just put down the deposit at Vandy. But given the chance to go to Michigan I would drop everything and run to Ann Arbor. Basically I'm asking if I should not put down the Vandy deposit and reapply in the fall. Thanks y'all!

I'm likely to go into PI, and one of the thing that drew me to Michigan were all of its clinics.cyj43 wrote:What are career goals?ladybug1 wrote:So I am currently on the WL at Michigan, GULC, and Northwestern, and have been accepted at University of Illinois full ride, UT-Austin with a 120k scholarship, and Vandy with a 120k scholarship. Sorry for the brevity. It would better help users here give feedback if we are provided a little more detail on career goals i.e. where do you want to work? What kind of PI? Will you be taking out loans and risk paying sticker price at Michigan should ED work? Details!!!

Please take the year off and reapply. 1. You'll almost certainly get better offers if you apply earlier and will probably get into Michigan without ED. 2. Taking a year off and getting real world experience is almost always the right move. I went straight through and very much regret it.

Re: Vandy vs. Reapply
Ahh sorry. Okay so ultimately I would like to end up in Chicago. I have a few connections with the SA's office and am definitely open to that but am a little more interested in wider issues, so ACLU/civil rights litigation or a private public interest firm. I will be taking out minimal loans as my parents have really, really generously offered to help pay, as long as I also search for some outside scholarships. Essentially, while a scholarship at Michigan would be really awesome it's not the biggest factor for me. Sorry for being not-so-detailed before!cyj43 wrote:Sorry for the brevity. Reapply to all T-14's earlier in the cycle as you will have better outcomes

Vandy 3L here.
If you have any specific questions about the school, I'm happy to answer them, but I dunno if I have any advice for your situation, as I know pretty much nothing about PI.
But don't ED. If you apply next cycle you'll get Mich with some amount of scholarship money. I know you'll have outside help, but I still wouldn't just throw away several thousand dollars by ED-ing.
