Hey all,
I am trying to decide if I should start law school this fall ('16) or hold off until next fall ('17) to begin. I under-performed on my Feb LSAT (first attempt) and will be sitting again for the June 6 test - I will then need to make a very quick decision once I get my results, if I want to start in August. That is why I am putting the thought and weight into this hypothetical situation.
I am preptesting in the lower-160s and have a 3.33 UGPA. I also will be 29 by this fall - not old by any means, but not a recent college graduate either.
I have lived in 5 states and am rather open to practicing in different states in the east coast-ish area - but, I will go ahead and name PA as where I want to practice, since the majority of my family is in PA. More specifically, the Philly region would be nice, although I do have a guaranteed job in central PA upon passing the bar, if I want it.
If my preps hold true and I score in the lower 160s, I should be looking at the following (for '16):
Akron - full ride (they have a lazy river too, something to put on my resume). I have already been building my network of Akron Law alums working in Philly, just in case if I do take this low-debt option, so that I am in a better position for my goals.
Villanova - $$ (they have deep pockets, would likely be close to a full ride if applying earlier in the cycle - aka 2017)
Penn State - minimum $20k/yr alumni scholly, possibly more, though late in the cycle
UNC - if accepted, probably no money, but not expensive tuition and I love the area (some family ties too)
Emory - currently waitlisted, if accepted no money. Not much of an option for me, financially, but I do have family ties to the area and a brother currently in their fellowship (MD) program
URichmond - currently waitlisted, higher LSAT would probably get me in, not sure about money
Cinci - waitlisted, higher LSAT would get me in and probable money
If I hold off until 2017, I will additionally apply to Temple (Philly) and possibly UPitt (I've lived in Pittsburgh before, enjoyed the area, and have social ties to the greater area).
