FWIW, I was in a similar situation and withdrew from UCLA. However, I'm heavily risk-averse and was worried about completely striking out at UCLA (smaller margin for error @ UCLA). Also, do you NEED to work in California, or prefer to work in California? There's a difference as Michigan could get you to CA, but you'd probably need to be above median there from speaking to students.

Born & raised in California.
I'd like to work in Los Angeles or Southern California.
I'm interested in clerking & big law (for loan repayment purposes).
I don't have a set idea of what I'd like to do in the long run... possibly IP or appellate work.

Thoughts? Please & thank you.
At 40k cheaper, I'd lean toward UCLA, but it's close. Depends on how bad you want to be in California.

Thanks for the input! I don't need to be in California per se, but I can't see myself living or working anywhere else. It's a strong personal preference.
Haha, I think that's as close to "need to be" as one can get. In that case, UCLA is probably the correct call. Enjoy the weather and the amazing ramen on Sawtelle!

A lot can happen in 3 years. Maybe you meet Mr/Mrs. Right and she is from NY, maybe the giant earthquake finally hits California, whatever. Michigan has national reach and allows you to go anywhere straight from Lawschool. UCLA has not so much. Chase that prestige!
