I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me make my decision, because I'm open to both of these schools but want to know which one might ultimately be better both financially & education-wise.
So UM is offering me a scholarship of $40k/year (current tuition is $47,774/year)
and UF is offering me 50% of tuition per year (it's fixed as a percentage, at present it would be $11150/year out of a tuition of $22,300/year)
I'm from Miami and if I went to UM, I'd be able to save money by living at home.
UM's scholarship comes with the stipulation that my GPA remains above a 2.50. UF's scholarship just comes with the stipulation that I remain in good academic standing. I wonder how this might work out in 1L, when courses are notoriously difficult.
LSAT 161
undergrad GPA 3.52 from the University of Toronto (#1 in Canada, #19 globally)
I feel confident that if I were to take the LSAT again, I'd be able to achieve a higher score. I was sick on the day and messed up one section; I was expecting a score closer to 168.
UM's bar pass rate is 81%, UF's is 89%. About 40.4% of UM students are employed immediately after graduation, whereas 42.7% of UF's are.
Additionally, I'm waitlisted at BU. Don't know what sort of grant they might offer me (maybe none) if I got in. I am considering sending another LOCI and, if I can get one, another recommendation. Also waiting to hear back from one Canadian school, UBC. Their tuition is about $11k, but I might not receive their decision until May. If I did not enroll in law school this year, I'd re-apply next year, most likely to more Canadian schools (because the job market is better up here & the healthcare is free.)
Which one might be better? At UF I would have to pay for living costs (much $$$$), but the school is slightly better than UM. UM is offering me a BIG scholarship if I'm able to maintain my high average through 1L and beyond, and living at home would save me a lot of money. But as far as reputations, alumni, and post-grad employment, I wonder which school might give me better prospects while not saddling me with a lifetime of debt?

Retake and reapply, not close
