Chicago Kent or Loyola Chicago

Post by MidwestNYC » Sun Mar 27, 2016 7:55 pm

I have a GPA of a 2.7 and an LSAT of 165. I want practice consumer law for the Attorney General's Office or work for an organization like the CFPB(yes I know it is unlikely). Cost isn't a concern because I have the GI Bill and I received scholarships from both schools to cover the rest. Please don't tell me to retake the LSAT because I am not going to. Illinois, Indiana, Notre Dame (where I got in) are out because my husband is a doctor in a very specialized field who wants to stay in academic medicine. I have visited both schools and I was impressed by Kent and disappointed by Loyola. However, my aunt is a litigator in the city and polled several of her colleagues who said I should go to Loyola.I want to practice in Chicago and I have no intentions of leaving the city once I move back. Any advice that is specific to choosing between these two schools would be greatly appreciated. Also I am visiting both schools again this week so if you guys have any suggestions about what I should be looking I would love to hear them.

I'm very familiar with the Chicago market and think most people view these schools pretty interchangeably. The employment numbers of the two schools are similar and both leave at roughly a 50% shot at becoming an attorney. If your network, through your aunt, has more respect for Loyola then going there might be slightly better for your job prospects, but I doubt it has any significant effect. Just go to Kent if you liked it more and be prepared to hustle your ass off to get the job you want.

Don't know how much Federal Clerkships matter to you, but this is the only real difference I've been able to find with the two so far (I've been researching IL schools too).

Neither rate spectacularly high in placement, but Loyola is at 1.1% while Kent is at a 0.2%. Technically almost 5 times better for what it might be worth

They aren't a high priority but thanks for pointing that out. The other plus for Loyola is the AG is a grad but that can always change.
