OOS, Sticker @ Emory, or local TTT school on ship?
I am in the process of hearing back from a variety of schools, as well as studying to retake my LSATs in June (I am already registered). I have already been admitted (with a scholarship) to more-regional TTT schools, within the region that I probably want to practice in. I have also been waitlisted at Emory - I do have ties to the Atlanta area and have multiple family members that live there (as well as a brother in his fellowship at the Emory Hospital).
If I do score significantly better on my June LSAT, would you advise going to a regional school in the northeast on a ship, or attending Emory (T20) at full-sticker? I would greatly appreciate some opinions, even if this situation is a bit hypothetical.
Thank you for your time!

Emory does offer scholarships to admits from the waitlist. A stronger LSAT should get you there.

Ok, can you give me your reasoning/justification for that comment? ThanksMullens wrote:DO NOT ATTEND EMORY AT STICKER PRICE.

Yeah, sure. The estimated debt financed cost of Emory, according to LST, is $284,323. That's a lot of money. Emory's employment score in in full-time bar passage reqired legal jobs is 82.4%, but a whopping 19.4% of those jobs are school funded. That means that the actual employment score is less than two-thirds. By going to Emory at sticker, you would essentially be gambling almost $300,000 at a 64% chance of getting a real job as a lawyer within 10 months of graduation. That's a terrible idea.bmathers wrote:Ok, can you give me your reasoning/justification for that comment? ThanksMullens wrote:DO NOT ATTEND EMORY AT STICKER PRICE.
I will say that the fact you need to ask for reasoning and justification about how Emory is not worth sticker means you need to spend a lot more time researching job outcomes, cost, and debt repayment plans. Read around TLS and some of the debates about whether ANY school is worth sticker. There are people, myself included, who don't believe that any law school is worth sticker debt in almost any circumstances. It doesn't make sense to pay $300,000 dollars for a degree where the optimal salary outcome is a job most people voluntarily leave in 2-3 years. Especially not at Emory where less that 30% of the class gets biglaw/clerkship.

This is easy. Emory is objectively not worth its sticker.
Emory COA, debt financed: $277k
Expected 2-year earnings (this is what you're paying for*): $102k
NPV: ($175k)
*Atlanta market is $135k, not $160k
This is a colossally bad investment.

This! I'll also add that Emory doesn't publish its student salaries. Given the state of Georgia's reported salaries (http://www.nalp.org/sal_by_state_ftjobs_class_of_2014), you're looking at a 64% chance at a job making (on average) $60k.Mullens wrote:Yeah, sure. I think we've established Emory to not be worth full sticker, but how much is it worth? 70% scholarship? 50%? Compare to full ride at Tier 2 school.

I would think you'd want to keep total COA under $100k. It also depends on your goals and where you want to live and where the T2 is.col1 wrote:I think we've established Emory to not be worth full sticker, but how much is it worth? 70% scholarship? 50%? Compare to full ride at Tier 2 school.

I have 3 such offers but probably LSU to work midlaw in either Louisiana or Houston/Austin.
