Berkeley or Vanderbilt$$

Post by HG180 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 12:15 am

$25,0000 to Vandy and i love the school culture. Also admitted to Berkeley, a more competitive law school with better job placements. Money is not an issue in my case. I'm looking to go big law in the DC, Atlanta, Nashville, and California. Thoughts? I know my answer isn't definite. I guess what I'm wondering is: which school will allow me to keep my options open the most?

If money is not an issue then Berkeley... Both are impressive with good employment rates but Berkeley is located in a major market (CA) and dominates and Vandy dominates in smaller south eastern markets.

Ok. Thanks for your imput. I should probably be honest here though: i am primarily trying to go into the southeast market. Atlanta Nashville DC then possibly California. Still prioritizing Berkeley because it's the most competitive school i got into. If i go to Berkeley over Vanderbilt though, do you think it would hurt me in southern big law?

That makes it tough but I would personally take Vanderbilt in that situation If I was commited to that area.

I'd go to Duke/UVA before Berkeley or Vandy if money was no object and I wanted to work in the southeast.

Are you from the southeast?

+10000 on this. OP, are these your only options? I can't believe they are, especially if you're not worried about money.

Okay, then I guess Vandy, but I'm literally contorting my face as I'm typing this. As Zuck said, and I completely agree with, if I'm basically playing with house money, I'd bet on Duke or UVA for southeast. Only other school on your list that I'd even remotely consider would be Emory, and I'd feel better about Vandy over Emory.

Forget about rankings...Vandy is a better bet than Berkeley to get you to Atlanta biglaw.
