UC Davis v. UCI

Post by tomfooleryy » Wed Mar 09, 2016 5:22 pm

I'm having a hard time weighing out the benefits of each and the drawbacks. As it stands I have 81K over three years from UCI and 105K over three from Davis. I live close to UCI so I'd have the benefit of staing home but I would also be going to a younger school. i'm looking to go into Criminal Law but I'm also interested in a JD/MBA program.

It's mostly the money that's holding me up now because I know cost of living in Davis is way lower than in Orange County but also the reputation and age of the school.

I'd pick Davis, as long as you're open to working in NorCal.

Remember, tuition is slightly higher at UC Davis. UCI is strong public interest and has OC ties with public defender's and prosecution offices, UC Davis...same thing except it's pull is in Sac and a bit in LA and the bay. It really depends on where you want to work! Good luck deciding if you haven't already, both are great schools!

Why do you want to get a JD/MBA? Do you actually want to practice law? Do your scholarships have stipulations at all? All things being equal I'd say go where you want to work, SoCal, UCI, NorCal, Davis.

Getting the MBA will skew your cost figures though, right?

I'd go UCI since you're a local. Unless you don't want to live and practice in the OC that is.
