Belmont Law vs. Tennessee Law

Post by Volfan999 » Fri Jan 08, 2016 10:26 am

All,

I had a quick question. I have received 75% tuition to attend Belmont in the fall vs. $5,000 per year to attend the UT College of Law. Unfortunately, Belmont's tuition is much higher so it's averaging out to be around the same. Which should I attend? I'm asking this question because Belmont has just received the highest bar passage rate (94%) of anyone in the state, beating out teams like Vanderbilt and UT, and also, they have just secured the 2nd highest ranked moot court team in the region and will be participating at nationals. However, UT is ranked MUCH higher than Belmont. I'm just really stumped right now...

Who cares about moot court or passing the bar when you can't get a job?

Yeah, but they're a relatively new school and they've been up and coming for the past two years. Do you think those numbers will shoot up with the recent bar passage rate improvement?

I would think that the alumni network of UT would be much more extensive and the brand name much stronger across the state.

EDIT: What part of the state do you want to practice in? Will your expenses differ being in Nashville rather than Knoxville?

If you want to work in TN law, UT or Vandy are far and away the best options. If UT and Belmont are the same price, I would take UT every day and twice on Sunday.

That's not how employment numbers work.
