Go or no go

Post by eagle2a » Sun Aug 16, 2015 4:53 pm

I'm supposed to be starting SMU next week but am getting cold feet. I have a decent scholarship and my parents are covering the rest so money is not an issue. I'm from a neighboring state but want to work in Dallas. I'm scared as shit about not getting a job though. Don't really care for big law but would take it. Interested in DA's office or small/mid sized firm doing non-liigation work. I'm out of retakes, highest score was a 163. Useless undergrad major so I don't really have anything else going for me. If you must know tcoa will be around 100k

It is natural to have these feelings at this point. Honestly, your financial situation is solid and you may not find the most lucrative gig out of SMU, but there is work in the greater DFW area. I am from Dallas and think it is a fantastic city. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

However, if you choose SMU and have desires to go home ( I'm assuming outside of TX ), you will struggle.

If you really want to be a lawyer, go.

You want a da job or a non-litigation firm job?

Nothing wrong with that it just seems odd. DA jobs are all about lit

If u have nothing better to do and your parents are covering your tuition, what is there to think about? Plus you state that you have a useless UG major. If you are scared about getting a job after SMU, u will be scared at other schools too.

If anything, maybe u need to try and defer and take a break.

Since you'll have no debt and have a useless major from undergrad, just go to law school. You will enjoy better employment prospects than your current qualifications will garner. No debt plus your goals seem to align with SMU.

First day of class is tomorrow. I'm thinking of going this week and seeing what it's like. I really don't want to spend countless hours reading/doing other stuff and spend a bunch of my parents money but have no guarantee of getting a job.

Well, virtually no school will give you a guaranteed job. Obviously, there are places that give better/worse odds, but striking out is usually a possibility.

Are you sure you want to go to law school in general? It's hard to tell how much of this is you being wary of job prospects and how much is you just thinking it isn't for you.
