Cornell (0$) vs. USC (full $)
Should I go to Cornell or USC?
I don't want to leave my boyfriend and I do hope to end up in LA, but Cornell's a much better school overall. Also, I'm very young (19) so I don't know how serious the boyfriend is.
Also I want to end up in big law.

Can your parents afford to foot the Cornell bill, or what do you expect your debt to be?
Do you want to start your career in a CA city?

How are you possibly facing this decision right now? It's August

Can you try to negotiate? Cornell isn't worth that kind of debt when you have a full ride at USC. Unless there are some other factors such as your parent's paying for Cornell I'd say USC.
What are your goals - if you are set on on big-law, then neither is a good option, USC doesn't guarantee it by any means, whereas Cornell is too huge a gamble, considering you'll basically have 250+ thousand in loans afterwards, and therefore you HAVE to get it otherwise you're massively screwed. In that case, I'd consider sitting out the cycle and reapplying with a higher LSAT (if that's a possibility).
That's a really strange position to be in... what are your stats and when did you apply?

I applied in early March 2015. I'm set on big law, but (this might be because I'm immature) just really don't want to end up alone at 30

Did you apply to other schools? And how are you still deciding this late in the summer? This thread is confusing.Lawstudent95 wrote:I applied in early March 2015. I'm set on big law, but (this might be because I'm immature) just really don't want to end up alone at 30
Reapply this cycle is the only reasonable choice here.

You have to reapply. Have your parents pay for Berkeley or Columbia or, hopefully, Stanford.

You may want to apply August 2015 for the next cycle. You're young anyway and that might hold you back a bit at OCI. Your cycle, chances at big law, and scholarship offers will massively improve. Take a year to travel, relax, do something, or work. Be a 19 year old.Lawstudent95 wrote:I applied in early March 2015. I got in off the wait list at Cornell. So now I need to decide whether to go to Cornell at full price or USC at zero cost

You're 19? Did you just graduate college? Go experience life first. And reapply with those numbers because you should have much better options.

Why should I reapply? I'm just too young right now? Would that really hurt my career prospects?

Yea, don't even bother going this year. Your numbers are great, have your parents pay for Columbia or NYU, with an outside shot at H or S instead of Cornell.

Re: Cornell (0$) vs. USC (full $)
Probably a bit. You could probably do something really cool for the next year, then go into OCI two years from now with more experiences to talk about. But the biggest thing would be that you can get into higher ranked schools that may make more sense geographically (where do you want to work?) and offer you some scholarship money.Lawstudent95 wrote:Why should I reapply? This. Your best offer with a 171/4.0 should not be sticker at Cornell, or settling for SC (full scholly or not).hairbear7 wrote:reapply with those numbers because you should have much better options.

You should reapply so you can go to a better school for what you want to do.Lawstudent95 wrote:Why should I reapply? I'm just too young right now? Would that really hurt my career prospects?
Are you too young? Well you did apply in March, which was foolish, and therefore suggests you haven't done your homework on this decision.
It seems like you don't know what you're getting yourself into.

I don't want to leave my boyfriend and I do hope to end up in LA, but Cornell's a much better school overall. Also, I'm very young (19) so I don't know how serious the boyfriend is.
Also I want to end up in big law.

Re: Cornell (0$) vs. USC (full $)
If your bf is 19 or so as well, I would just cut your losses and do what's best for you. It's way too early to think about being alone forever. Seriously, OP. Do what's best for you and your family in the long run.FirmBiz wrote:Oh, I thought the BF was closer to CornellKMart wrote:I got the understanding the bf was in CA?FirmBiz wrote:Lol, 200k in debt for loveLawstudent95 wrote:Should I go to Cornell or USC?

Also, I have to ask because I think this is important. Are you a Rothman (I think that's what SC calls it) scholar with a full-ride and guaranteed employment at whatever firm they say? If so, I'd go to SC given your goals, the 0 debt, and the guaranteed job. No debt + ending up in LA + staying w/ BF + not having to worry about employment = happy OP and happy parents.

If you do either of these with 4.0/171, you're legitimately crazy.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
