No options with money in-between? Penn, UVA, Cornell, etc.?
ETA: Where else did you apply and when did you send in your applications?

Nope. These are the two choices.
I was waitlisted almost everywhere else. Got a couple of less appealing offers (less money from GW than gtown and same money from NYU as columbia)

What is the COA for each?
What are your goals?
Do have any undergraduate debt? If so, how much?
How much do you like your SO?
Are you K-JD?

Damn, you should have gotten big money from the lower t13.

Yeesh. Tough call. I guess that's not that bad of a price for gulc.
Pretty surprised you dont have any better options on the table. Really a waitlist from Duke and Cornell?
Idk man. The fact that you have no idea what you want to do with your degree is fairly troubling though.

It is amazing that you don't have better options. That is a stellar LSAT score and would have fetched the Dillard scholarship at UVA and BIG money from Duke, Cornell, and others. We are missing a piece or pieces to the puzzle here. When did you apply??

Neither is a terrible option IMO. I would probably lean GULC, but I'm biased as someone who went to a T6 and then got a job out of it. In hindsight I'd rather have gone to GULC for $100k less but who knows where I'd have ended up.

I faced a similarly tough decision between NYU and Gtown as far as far as scholly and debt at repayment between the two.
I chose Gtown, and if I were in your position, I would choose it again. Personally, I don't think any school is worth $200K in debt.
DC has so many resources at your disposal that if you choose Gtown, you can really explore a lot of different areas of the law via externships and whatnot throughout the school year. This can be helpful since you don't really have a practice area in mind. Just my two cents.

I am leaning towards Georgetown; I don't think the opportunities at Columbia are 100k better than Georgetown's
However, the 60k was Columbia's first offer. I think I might be able to get a little more, and so I am trying to decide where the cutoff is. How much more debt is Columbia worth over Georgetown?

May not be too late to send LOCIs to the WL schools. This has Y/P written on it. Your app/resume must scream NY. Moreover, it's not unheard of to come off the wait list with some serious cash.
As far as the NY schools go, you should be negotiating.

You should give us more details. How late did you apply? Have you had an objective third party review your statements? Do you have a major C&F red flag?smipt wrote:I've already sent LOCI to the WL schools. I'm in the process of negotiating.daleearnhardt123 wrote:May not be too late to send LOCIs to the WL schools. If these were my choices and I had your stats I'd honestly consider waiting a year. Those numbers snag full rides at V and P

I don't think you're getting a full ride at V/P without a 3.9+. I had a 3.8, LSAT above 174, and my C/N offers were over 4 times higher (both combined) what my V/P offers were, and I was an alum at one of those schools. Maybe it was soft YP but you can expect more money from the NYC schools with a high LSAT.daleearnhardt123 wrote: If these were my choices and I had your stats I'd honestly consider waiting a year. Columbia is very clearly worth the money over GULC. I'd go with Columbia here, although I agree with the other voices that you should have cheaper options available.

Re-apply is the CR.
If you had to choose, I'd go with Columbia but GULC wouldn't be indefensible. Significantly better employment chances - especially for K-JDs (And this is coming from a current GULC student here).

If you were certain you wanted NY biglaw I think Columbia at that price could be justified.
With your lack of specific goals I'm not certain any law school is justified. Figure out what you want. If that means taking a year to reapply then it's probably worth it.

Re: Columbia v Georgetown
You really should take a good look at your app and figure out what went wrong. You should be deciding between HYS and better schollys from CCN and fulls in the lower T14. Something is up here. While Columbia is a great school and all, I'd still wait a year and reapply with a stronger app. You should have had a much better cycle.
