Why Shouldn't I go to UVA?

Post by BillsFan9907 » Sat Nov 08, 2014 9:00 pm

Really loving UVA but think I have a shot at Harvard and Yale. When should QoL trump going to HYS? I guess the below is a starting point?

Well he's right about one thing: "high-end litigation boutiques that pay top dollar and only higher the best of the best."

For better or for worse, I can't read an article beyond an error like the one above.

Because you should wait for the rest of your cycle to play out and see what happens. It's only November and you're already guaranteed a great outcome. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Yeah man, you are right. I am sure my enthusiasm, though it may continue to grow, will nonetheless be open to rational inquiry some months from now. Now is not the time for me to be worrying. It's time for me to be chilling.

I guess unless this thread is useful to anyone else - and it obviously isn't - we can just leave things here. Feel free to lock, Mods.

Also worth waiting to see if you snag a Ruby, which I think is an objectively better outcome (although obviously a Dillard is one of the best outcomes possible).

TCR. You can rule out HYS right now, but might as well see what Columbia and Chicago have to offer. The Ruby is the best outcome possible (covers COL).

Why, is OP rich? HYS won't give merit, but they are pretty generous with need-based aid.

Dillard is awesome, Ruby is awesome, HYS with max aid is awesome. No matter what, you're starting law school right

Ruby makes more financial sense but if you like CVille and UVA more, makes sense to go there.

IMO Chicago winters and Hyde park sucks real bad so I think the difference in quality of life would be worth it

You should go (unless you get a full ride from CCN). Congrats!

Consider that you might suck at LS.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

UVA is in a college town and has a reputation as a party school. Neither is necessarily a negative for you, but they will be for some people. For example, if you're 32 and your wife's career requires you to be in a major city, then UVA might not be a great fit. Of course, even then, it'd still be worth considering given your scholly.

Some have said that the Ruby at UChi is the best possible outcome. This is because UChi is slightly higher ranked and the Ruby gives you slightly less debt at graduation. Unless your circumstance presents a special reason to value those considerations, I wouldn't give them much weight. I'd instead choose based on school culture, career/regional focus, and quality of life.
