UF vs FSU vs Emory 2014 (on the right board this time)
Accidentally posted this on the wrong board...
I know the FSU/UF topic has been discussed ad nauseam, but I couldn't find any posts updated for FSU's jump in rankings over UF. I'm currently applying and I've narrowed it down to UF, FSU, and Emory, but I was hoping to get some Floridian opinions. Not a resident of FL, but I know I want to practice in the state and that I want to be a prosecutor. LSAT is 166 and GPA 3.8. Here are my thoughts right now:
FSU pros:
- Ranked higher
- More graduates get government jobs
UF pros:
- Criminal Justice Certificate and Prosecutorial Clinic
Emory pros:
- T20
- Atlanta

Rankings are generally meaningless, especially at the margins. A magazine flipping UF/FSU doesn't really change anything.
Your numbers are too good for any of those three. Retake for Duke with a scholarship.

The numbers that matter are % jobs and debt. What is each offering in aid?

This is dumb. Until you have acceptances and scholarship $$$ in hand there is no point in trying to decide where to go.

Does not compute. Drop Emory. You need to establish credible ties to Florida if you want to be a prosector there, going to a trap-ish out of state school won't help you at all.palmetto22 wrote:I know I want to practice in [Florida] and that I want to be a prosecutor.

I also wouldn't bother with Duke TBH. It's overkill school and debt-wise and I don't see it doing you any favors to get a job in Florida if you're not a Floridian. People who do DA hiring don't seem like the type to cream themselves for T14 carpetbaggers, they want commitment from you. I don't see Duke helping in that regard. I guess you could summer in FL but I wouldn't mess with it.
Just take a fully from FSU/UF and be done with it if you're 100% committed to PI in FL.
