I wanna work in the DC-Annapolis-Baltimore area (Beltway)
Which schools are best for these areas in Maryland/DC? I'm applying to both MD and Georgetown, but is there another school that is good at recruiting towards BIG law firms?

People say maryland isnt the best school, but is there a better place to go to work in baltimore or Annapolis, or the whole state for that matter

Maryland doesn't make sense if you want big law. Don't even bother applying in that case.
I don't think GW makes any sense either unless you're IP.
GULC is the lowest ranked school you should bother with if you want big law in DC, IMO (maybe UT/Vandy but probably not)

GW for someone with an IP background on a full doesn't seem objectively awful.BigZuck wrote:Maryland doesn't make sense if you want big law. Don't even bother applying in that case.

OP is not that person. He should probably not go to LS at all.

I think we are in agreement there? I really know nothing about IP and DAT BUMP but if the echo chamber keeps echoing that I guess I'll run with it. Apparently they have a ton of IP employers who come to their OCI and that makes up a solid percentage of their big law percentage.phillywc wrote:GW for someone with an IP background on a full doesn't seem objectively awful.
GULC is a really iffy choice with a big law or bust mentality, I'd imagine GW is all the more so if you're not IP eligible.

GW student here. Top 1/3 can get biglaw without IP & with significant hustle - going through OCI right now & seeing that. IP goes down to median. For GW, $$$$ really means full ride.BigZuck wrote:I think we are in agreement there? I really know nothing about IP and DAT BUMP but if the echo chamber keeps echoing that I guess I'll run with it. Yeah, was just throwing it out there because GW actually gives money and gtown doesn't, really.BigZuck wrote:I think we are in agreement there? Also wrong forum,
And considering you've been asking multiple times regarding Texas, I'd say no if these are your goals.

Does big law even exist in Annapolis? I assume most of the legal jobs there are state govtilikebaseball wrote:People say maryland isnt the best school, but is there a better place to go to work in baltimore or Annapolis, or the whole state for that matter

Go to a T14 and get awesome grades. And you better love litigation.

Wanting to do BigLaw while living in Maryland means working in the District. Baltimore has a few offices/firms that would be described as BigLaw, but not many (single digits) and definitely not enough to be a realistic end goal. Annapolis doesn't have anything that would be described as Biglaw and neither does the rest of Maryland. The vast majority of Maryland's population lives within 45 minutes of D.C., the second biggest legal market in the country after NYC. Any big firms looking to set up shop in this region do it in D.C., not Rockville or Annapolis.ilikebaseball wrote:People say maryland isnt the best school, but is there a better place to go to work in baltimore or Annapolis, or the whole state for that matter

My anecdotal evidence is that a friend graduated from MD top third and still had to hang his own shingle. Said it was actually easier to get B-more jobs if you matriculated from University of Baltimore than UMD.

I'd apply to GULC, GW, UVA, W&M and the rest of the T14. I don't think it's worth applying to UMD, UB, GMU, American, or any other regional schools if you're looking for biglaw.ilikebaseball wrote:Which schools are best for these areas in Maryland/DC? None of the schools that people ITT are mentioning are very likely to get you biglaw except GULC, which will require the luck of nun's cunt to get you biglaw in DC (GULC is a really big school, where more than half of each class doesn't get biglaw). Aim for a top 3 law school if you have the GPA to get into one. Otherwise, go to the best t14 you can and be okay with working in NYC.
