Re: GW/BU/BC/Fordham
Personal experience in... prestige? Among lay people?*
All three schools are exceptionally regional. There is no way someone has "no preference in location" to the extent that something as silly as school prestige takes priority. *curious to see what this looks like, in terms of quantifiable data.
"Oh, I went to a bar and told a girl I went to BC, and she was bouncing on me an hour later."
"Aw, man, I went to GWU and I can only bang bar bimbos after two hours of banter. I knew I should have gone to a school with more prestige!"

BC might have more prestige in its region than the others do in theirs. I'm from the area and BC Law is probably second to Harvard in lay prestige, and arguably for legal prestige also.

GW, gets mistaken for georgetown by lay peoples all the time. personal experience.incredulousbeing wrote: Which school do you think has the most prestige among lawyers as well as laypeople? I want to hear some personal experiences.

Re: GW/BU/BC/Fordham
i am considering the exact same schools and I am 90% sure choosing BU. GW class size is mammoth, Fordham is the 4th best law school in the state of New York (NYU, columbia, cornell) and everybody is gunning for NYC from the top 14. BC/BU is a toss up that i am wrestling with a lot.

Yup, with 40% acceptance rate, GW has so much prestige.

Re: GW/BU/BC/Fordham
I am not from the east coast so I can say this definitively: objectively speaking, none of those schools are prestigious.
People know where the Boston schools are because they have Boston in the title. Presumably they are state schools in MA.
George Washington could be anywhere. DC? Virginia? Missouri? California? Who knows, all I know is it's not prestigious.
What the hell is a Fordham?
If these schools are presitigious to someone it's because they are from that area. So it'll be highly dependent on who you're talking to.
HTH
Also, just go to whichever one you have the best ties to the region it places in and don't do it for more than about 80K total COA. Don't worry about amorphous, meaningless stuff like "lay prestige."

Even if you have no preference for location, ties can still be important for establishing what is a more realistic outcome. So, any ties to NYC/Boston/DC?

Re: GW/BU/BC/Fordham
Why such little respect for GW? After all, it's been consistently T20. Is it bcuz too expensive?
I'd say BU/GW for prestige, but Fordham for employment?

I'd vote for BC generally as it is probably the most "national" of the four regional schools.
Fordham if you are dead-set on NYC; GW if you are dead-set on D.C.

The Fordham Law Difference
Here, a solid grounding in legal theory is balanced with hands-on learning about the craft of lawyering. Our students benefit from a curriculum and faculty that has earned a reputation for excellence. Their studies are enriched by essential and innovative international opportunities. And they graduate prepared to practice law--from day one.
29% of the class completely unemployed or in short-term/part-time stints a full nine months after graduation
At Fordham Law, a spirit of service has been central since our founding in 1905. Our focus on ethics help students navigate the difficult issues they'll face as they pursue careers in our increasingly complex world. Our community of alumni provides a supportive network around the country and around the globe. And our dynamic location in New York City ensures our students access to opportunities that can only be found in a world-class city.
Only 63.4% of the Class of 2013 actually secured long-term, full-time, JD-required jobs
Fordham Law’s unique approach to legal education has rightly earned the School widespread praise as a leader among American law schools. In fact, Fordham Law is considered one of the top law schools by U.S. News & World Report.
One out of every seven "employed" students was in a short-term, part-time, or non-professional gig funded by the school
In terms of ranks and measures, the results of our compelling approach to legal education are excellent. As a top law school, Fordham Law is very selective. The School is one of the top 25 most selective law schools in the nation, measured in terms of the LSAT scores of its most recent entering class.
LSAT median has dropped every year for the last three years, along with every other measure of student selectivity
Perhaps most importantly, New York City is one of the world’s gateway cities. With an education from Fordham Law, one of the top New York law schools, students can go anywhere their interests and skills take them...
...especially the SSA office
Of all your listed options, Fordham has the lowest LST employment and the highest LST underemployment
If you're seriously considering Fordham without a very generous discount, please acquaint yourself with the following Fordham Law Orientation Materials:

lay prestige is usually generated more from the undergrad reputation. In that sense, it's probably BC-GW/BU-Fordham, but I suppose it varies wildly depending on where you're from/the people you talk to

A third of the class is outright unemployed or working temporary stints for shit pay (and a shocking number are part-time)
NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the country to live in
It's reasonable to expect that a significant number of Fordham grads would benefit from the useful information I have provided

Re: GW/BU/BC/Fordham
BU is the most national, I feel BC is by far the most prestigious, due to it being a top notch undergrad institution and strong in the Catholic community. Nobody knows what Fordham is and from people i talk to, every time i mention GW they say "what? why wouldn't you go to Georgetown doesn't GW suck?" haha
