UCI versus UC Davis

Post by Kappacha » Mon May 12, 2014 3:45 pm

I have committed to UC Davis for Fall 2014 but have just been accepted off of the wait list at Irvine along with a $15,000 scholarship. I have my tuition paid for by a VA bill. Ultimately, I want to end up in the LA/SD area so right now Irvine seems really appealing. But because it is not ranked yet, I am wary of actually committing to the school. Does anyone have any advice, especially 3L’s from UCI?

Thanks in advance!

Take Davis for NorCal and Irvine for SoCal. Because u lean SoCal, take Irvine.

The fact that Irvine "is not ranked yet" does not matter at all. It's basically the UC Davis of Southern California. If you want to work in Orange County, go there. UCD's placement is largely limited to Northern California, so it makes little sense to attend there (even for free) if your goal is to work as an attorney in Southern California.

Be aware, though, that there's a not insignificant chance you'll end up without a legal job if you finish in the bottom half of the class at UCI. The same is true for UCD.

These schools are really not good unless you have a very clearly defined career path already (meaning a guaranteed job lined up already, something like that).

How's about a retake and putting that VA bill to good use at UCLA or Berkeley?
