Ohio State vs Cincinnati Forum

I have placed a deposit down at both of these schools and cant decide between them. COA of each schools with scholarships is:
OSU-90k
UC- 30k

Goal is a medium size firm in Ohio. I will be paying close to all of the cost in loans with approx. 5-10 k in savings/family help.

From all accounts these two schools dominate Ohio (along with Case Western but I would rather be in the Cincy-Columbus region), so I cant decide if the extra cost will be worth it at OSU. I would be commuting to Cincy and living on campus at OSU.

You should have applied to Case. They're giving out full ride scholarships like they're water.

I would say OSU @ 90k. You can't change the name on your degree and the OSU name is pure gold in Ohio.

That's true I have had multiple people tell me to go to osu based on the prestige the school holds around here. I guess the extra 60k will be worth it in the end for the added job prospects.

The OSU name is not pure gold in Ohio. OSU is not worth 60k more.

That part sounds pretty horrible.

Are you from Cincinnati? Cincy is a very insular market so if you are interested in working but have no ties, UC would certainly be the best choice, especially with lower debt. If you are from Cincy, worry less about having to go to UC in order to crack the Cincy market because your ties already exist.

Going to OSU creates a "margin of error" for getting a job that provides your desirable standard of living. You have to put a dollar amount on how you value that margin of error e.g., is it 60K for you to have a slightly better shot at BigLaw (101+) or a federal clerkship.

If it is worth it to you, go to OSU. If you are more interested in civil litigation or small Cincy-centric work and not crazy about spending the equivalent of a very nice car, UC is TCR. LST has UC at 24% in short-term jobs or unemployed while OSU has 19% so the difference there is not as substantial as some posters would have you believe.

You most certainly did not do that. You didn't say your numbers and you didn't say how much each school would cost. The fact that you haven't crunched those numbers is pretty frightening, to be honest.

Anyway, gotta retake the LSAT. Also, "midlaw" doesn't really exist for new grads for the most part, at best these schools will probably leave you with small firm/local government work making 40-60K

Yes, you did not give complete information. 30k sounds very low, even with living at home. I assume that means a full ride to UC?
You really have to retake and go somewhere else next year. Ohio is a really cluttered state with law schools and I would personally not go anywhere but OSU w/ a lot of money.

Paying anything to go to UC is a bad deal. With that GPA, you have to retake.
